Interesting analysis. You're very correct: the Clintons have managed to successfully (and fraudulently) pass themselves off as "mainstream" - it's why they win elections. The Nine Dwarves, OTOH, are dug in too far to the left to do this. We've got a pleasant year ahead.

I run a Mainstream Media Schadenfreude ping list in which I alert members to examples of the news media getting caught making fools of themselves. I think that's a lot of the reason it's become FR lingo, but the term itself has been around forever and I doubt it was unheard of on FR before I created the ping list.

Michael Savage has a theory that should Hillary run, whether now or in '08, she may run as a Margaret Thatcher type, an 'Iron Lady'. At least in terms of foreign policy. By that time, if we are used to the current big spending ways of the Republicans, domestic policy may not be such a big division between the two.
