Monday Nov. 24, 2003; 7:42 p.m. ESTNews Blooper: Daschle Slams U.S. as 'Evil'
The Cleveland Plain Dealer has apologized after mistaking Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle for Saddam Hussein in a report last week that had the top Democrat criticizing the U.S. as "evil."
"Because of an editing error, a story on the front page yesterday misattributed a quote from the speaker on an audiotape purportedly of Saddam Hussein as coming from Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle of South Dakota," the paper told its readers last Wednesday, according to the Capitol Hill newspaper Roll Call.
"It was the speaker on the tape, not Daschle, who said, 'The evil ones now find themselves in crisis, and this is God's will for them.'"

Simple mistake, anyone could make it. I get Tom Daschle and Saddam Hussein confused all the time.
Tom Daschle was deeply saddended, by the way.

Probably the closest that Dashole or the CPD ever came to saying the truth....

That gives me an idea:
Q: Who's more evil?
1) Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein or
2) Tom Daschle and Hillary Clinton?
No question it's number 2.

One of the local talk show hosts mentioned this story last night. Usually liberal, he then uncorked this beauty:
"The only question is which of the two hates America more."
He got a gold star from me!

Yeah, Saddam's the guy who was tolerant of Christians.
To: Bubba_Leroy
Daschle may have actually said "We must destroy Bush, Conservatives, and the entire concept of Democracy so I can get a seat on the Proletariat! The Constitution is standing in my way!"

Let's give the editor a break. Upon hearing those words, you'd naturally think it was Daschle.

In a free country he is allowed to speak his mind...and then take the consequences of his views
This guy has no business representing anyone in American Govt IMO...

It's easy to tell Tom Daschle from Saddam - Daschle is the much, much shorter one of the two...
To: astounded
Yeah, plus the mention of "God" and "evil" pretty much eliminates Temper Tantrum Tommy as the source.

Hey, it is a perfectly understandable mistake.
They are about the same in stature and personality aren't they?
