California Senate has voted to repeal SB 60! (Drivers' Licenses for Illegals Being REPEALED Now!)
Posted on 11/24/2003 4:34:03 PM PST by ElkGroveDan
The California Senat is now voting on SB 1XXX by Senator Rico Oller to repeal SB 60, the dirvers license of illegal aliens bill.
Reports are that the Democrats have been scared into supporting this. The recall exit polls showed it was the number one issue.

Way to go! Question now becomes, will the courts overturn it?

This will triple the driver's license fee for every driver in Cal. Some compromise.
I guess your right, considering the illegals cost millions for the State and considering they bankrupted CA! What a small price to pay!

I'm listening to Ken & Bob now and some guy named Mike Spence (I think) said if repealing SB60 passes in the assembly, then the referendum won't go on the ballot. He also said that he expects Cedillo to come up with another version of SB60 some time next January.

"One problem, IIRC, John and Ken were saying, last week that if they do repeal the law, then it will not go into effect until March or April and will cause a run on licenses in the first few months of 2004.
Anybody else hgear anything like this?"
If SB60 is repealed by 2/3rds of the legislature, then the repeal takes effect IMMEDIATELY.

Pubbie

Father Christmas, aka Arnold has a few bad girls and boys to bounce out of cushy jobs in Sacramento and around the state before spring can follow.
I keep hearing of at least 100,000 political plum jobs up to 150,000 that need Willie Green crying over their loss of jobs in California.

That's only if it was a majority bill. This is an urgency measure so it needs 2/3 (which it got) and it then takes effect immediately.

Still thinking McClintock would have been better than Arnold? McClintock would have never been this successful in taking the issue to the public.

Just read it JP.
You folks in Ill. dodged the "illegal drivers license bullet" last week. Maybe the news from Calyfornia will wake up some of your state politicians ( Theres no hope for Durbin or Fitzgerald ).
A friend of mine went to a mexican resturant last weekend in which hispanic-looking men were working noticed alot of bikes parked out in the back figuring that some of the workers were illegals and could not get legal drivers license here in Missouri and had to pedal to work. I figured Missouri is doing the right thing by not helping illegals. If our federal government will not do its job and stop this, we are going to have to work at the state level to make our states as "illegal UN-friendly" as possible.

Mike Spence (from saveourlicense) was just on KFI radio and said if repealing SB60 passes in the assembly, then the referendum won't go on the ballot.
He also said that he expects Cedillo to come up with another version of SB60 some time next January.
To: DumpsterDiver
Beware! Gil Cedillo will be back with a new and improved license bill. That man is not going to take no for an answer.Exactly. Cedillo will do whatever he can to help his fellow Latinos because Cedillo places race before nationality.

Let's all give credit where credit is due: TO THE CALIFORNIANS WHO HAVE SECURED 400,000 SIGNATURES IN THE SB60 REFERENDUM. THE SIGNATURES ARE STILL COMING IN.
This victory belongs to the hard-working political activists who put fear into the leftists....
To: demkicker
Such convictions!Arnold did promise that if they repealed it, he would work with them to create a compromise bill that would still allow illegals to get drivers' licences.

So much for Arnold being a hero.

This distant observer sees Arnold made a deal to repeal. The deal involves reintroducing next year with background checks proviso, but by then lots can change. Scared Dems may not have the balls to bring it up.

"And for all you that were skeptical of the Governor's leadership on this issue, I have one thing to say: GO ARNOLD GO"
It's got nothing to do with Arnold!
The only reason that they voted to repeal it is that they can't afford to have the Referendum go to the ballot and get trounced where they wouldn't dare introduce and new milder illegal licence law that your friend Arnold would sign.
We have enough signatures to put the refeerendum on the ballot now.

Thank you greatly. You are exactly right. The California Republican Assembly-led effort has garnered 400,000 signatures (375,000 needed) and more are coming in. The politicians did NOTHING -- all of the lousy politicians.

I'm opposed to granting any kind of legal document to illegal aliens or anybody else that commits a crime and then expects to get rewarded for it. That sends a real great message. I don't care how much "security" the RATs claim this revised bill will offer; it is simply another step towards another amnesty, ad infinitum. And it drives up the cost for those Americans who always must foot the bill for another great social experiment. The only way I might support such a bill is if the license has the words ILLEGAL ALIEN embossed on it. Fat chance. That would be "discrimination"; Hell, I can't legally drive an 18 wheeler merely on the strength of my Cal license.
