California Senate has voted to repeal SB 60! (Drivers' Licenses for Illegals Being REPEALED Now!)

Posted on 11/24/2003 4:34:03 PM PST by ElkGroveDan

The California Senat is now voting on SB 1XXX by Senator Rico Oller to repeal SB 60, the dirvers license of illegal aliens bill.

Reports are that the Democrats have been scared into supporting this. The recall exit polls showed it was the number one issue.

I've read C.S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia twice now, and I do think you're right.

...next year a new Drivers License for Illegals Bill comes... ...with the Security Checks that now Re-Called Gov. GRAY DAVIS vetoed 2 years ago. ...This is about what ARNOLD said his position was during the Recall Election.

So Arnold IS for CA Driver licenses for Illegals?

One problem, IIRC, John and Ken were saying, last week that if they do repeal the law, then it will not go into effect until March or April and will cause a run on licenses in the first few months of 2004.

Anybody else hgear anything like this?

That's how I remember it.

LOL I just pinged you. Do you remember when Arnold announced his candidacy and said he'd do this? Many folks here were saying he could not. Well...-smiles-

Arnold had better follow up on this by having his new DMV head park observers in some of the more "notorious" DMV field offices (the city of Davis DMV office comes to mind). Many DMV offices were fairly well known for being lax on enforcing the SSN rule and allowing illegals to get licenses even BEFORE SB60 was passed. We need to make sure they don't just go back to their old ways and give them licenses anyway.

Fantastic. I hope they continue until every stupid tax unfairly put on the public is deleted.

They would have never repealed this if there wasn't a referendum which was about to qualify.

So you discount any role the Governor has played in this?

I would say all the people that questioned Arnold as not being conservative enough should be pretty convinced right now.

I'm happy about this, BUT, we'll see what happpens when the bill that includes background security checks comes around.

I don't discount the role the governor played in this. I am just stating reality when I say the legislature would not have repealed this if there wasn't a referendum hanging over their heads. The Rats came to the sensible conclusion that there was no point in having a politically damaging referendum on the issue when they can just repeal it now and negotiate a licenses for illegals bill that has background checks - Arnold's ONLY stated criticism of SB60 is its lack of security measures.

They will not dare to bring that bill up in the day light with Arnold as governor and the public feeling against having illegal aliens getting drivers licenses.

Until the son of Davis returns as governor, this terrible action is now DOA.
