Kentucky's Only Democrat Congressman (Ken Lucas) Won't Seek Re-Election, Endorses George Clooney's Father
Kentucky's only Democrat in Congress -- Ken Lucas -- won't run for re-election next year, The Kentucky Post is reporting.
The Covington newspaper reports that Cincinnati T-V personality Nick Clooney -- father of actor George Clooney -- will run to fill Lucas's seat.
Clooney, a 69-year-old Democrat from Bracken County, tells the Post that he and Lucas have discussed this since August.
A formal announcement is expected this morning.
Earlier this year, Lucas said he'd run for a fourth term, breaking a pledge he signed when he first ran for office to serve only three terms in the House.

BLUEGRASS BUMP!

Don't kid yourself, this is GEORGE Clooney's entrance into Politics. His high-profile acting career is on the skids..he's bored and he's a self-righteous liberal. He'll win...the gals will vote for him when he's ready.

Clooney? I hope he gets his ass kicked. Isn't this Bush's best district in Kentucky?

Does George Clooney still live in Kentucky? If I was him and wanted to run, I'd run out in LA or NY instead(unless he's from Louisville) where being a gun grabber, democrat, and Bush Hater is viewed positive instead of negative.

Clooney? I hope he gets his ass kicked. Isn't this Bush's best district in Kentucky? Yes, it is the most conservative and/or Republican of all six districts in Kentucky, by most measures. The Republican Party and conservative activists have been waiting with anticipation for Lucas to either change parties (yeah, right) or vacate the seat.

. . . this is GEORGE Clooney's entrance into Politics. His high-profile acting career is on the skids..he's bored and he's a self-righteous liberal. He'll win...the gals will vote for him when he's ready. To go this route requires his daddy to win, which I doubt will happen. The district is too conservative for the TV personality name to carry the day.
I do believe George will have to run on his own.

The seat was going Republican in any case,
but being Clooney's dad will be negative in Kentucky.
Hey vote for me because my son is a famous left wing
nutcase star who can't act his way out of a bag.

Lucas is 70, but that's still two years younger than Senator Jim Bunning. There had been previous rumors that Lucas might decide to challenge Bunning in 2004. Now that Lucas has decided not to run for the House again, does anyone think he'll try for the Senate? If so, what are his chances against Bunning?

Cloney SR. used to introduce the classics on the Turner Classics. He would say a few words and convey a little gossip and we would learn a big fat 0 for the effort.

Not that it matters - but I believe it was on AMC - not Turner Classic Movies.
Also - fyi - Nick Clooney was a news anchor in Cincy for many years - and before that he had his own variety show - --(late '60's/early '70's).
I grew up just north of Cincy (now living in southern IN/greater Louisville area). My youngest brother was in Cub Scouts with George Clooney - and even spent the night at the Clooney Farm where they lived in Mason, Ohio for a short time. My brother said that George was even a jerk back in the second grade!!! :))
Another tidbit - Clooneys are friends of Heather French Henry (former Miss America AND wife of Ky Lt. Governor - Steve Henry. Heather switched from the Republican Party to the Democrat Party a few years ago - right before they got married. I have heard her interviewed before and she talked about how she grew up in Maysville, KY - home of the Clooneys. They are evidently very close friends. I'm sure that she will support Clooney's run for Congress!!

If I'm correct, I believe Lucas has just as conservative voting record as the other five Reps from Kentucky. Even though he's a dem he's a blue dog much like Zell.

'course, his baby boy might bankroll his campaign. If so, withing the context of Democrat Party inspired campaign finance laws that would limit extreemly any contributions that Georgie Porgie can make to daddy.
