'Peg link to JFK murder?

Eerie chat in airport

By TAMMY MARLOWE, STAFF REPORTER

Did a group of men involved in a plot to kill U.S. President John F. Kennedy sit in a cocktail lounge at the Winnipeg International Airport and openly discuss their concerns about a growing knowledge of the conspiracy? The late Richard Giesbrecht, a local businessman, thought so. His discussions with the FBI about the conversation he overheard has made "The Winnipeg Airport Incident" a perplexing mystery.

On Nov. 22, 1963, President Kennedy was shot in the head as he rode in the back seat of an open convertible with his wife, Jacqueline, through the streets of Dallas, Texas.

Though Lee Harvey Oswald was fingered as the man behind the sniper's rifle, many people believed some pieces of the puzzle surrounding Kennedy's death didn't quite fit together -- and the discrepancies spurred the debate that remains hot today.

INCREDIBLE TALE

Giesbrecht's former lawyer, Harry Backlin, said it's not hard for him to remember the day nearly 40 years ago when his client came to him with the incredible Winnipeg airport tale.

"It's still fresh in my mind as to what happened," Backlin said recently from his home in Prince George, B.C. "I can see him sitting in front of me and his facial expressions as he told the story to me. It would be no different if somebody would come in and tell you, 'Look, I just saw a murder take place.' "

Giesbrecht was sitting in the Winnipeg airport's Horizon Room lounge on Feb. 13, 1964, when he began listening to a couple of guys in the next booth chat about the testimony of the late Oswald's wife, Marina, at the Warren Commission.

Giesbrecht later identified one of the men as David Ferrie -- who had connections to the Mafia and who some conspiracy theorists credit for organizing the initial plan to assassinate Kennedy. Giesbrecht said he heard the group say they had more cash at their disposal than ever before and that they planned to meet in Kansas City next month.

JFK researcher Peter Whitmey said Giesbrecht became worried after he heard the men say the Warren Commission wouldn't stop investigating the president's murder -- even if it was decided Oswald acted alone. Giesbrecht quickly left the airport and went to Backlin with what he'd overheard.

"His eyes were bulging -- they were wide open -- and his hands were going as he told the story," Backlin said. "To me, I was like, 'Holy Christ, what the hell am I getting myself into?' "

Backlin said he has never doubted the story told by his client and friend.

But he admitted the pair didn't know what to do with the controversial information. They considered not ever telling anyone about what they'd discussed.

Finally, the men decided to alert authorities and Backlin penned a letter to John Morris, then-U.S. Consul General in Winnipeg. He also contacted RCMP officials, who sent him to the FBI's field office in Minneapolis.

Agents interviewed Giesbrecht and Backlin, and sent a six-page report of the evidence to the Warren Commission.

But it ended there. Whitmey said Giesbrecht was supposed to testify at the trial of alleged JFK conspirator Clay Shaw, but backed out after receiving a threat against his family. Giesbrecht didn't speak of the incident after the 1960s and his three children have never publicly discussed the issue.

My theory on the JFK assassination:

Would the civil rights bill as we know it pass with Kennedy as President? Would Afirmative action as we know it have passed? Would there be the Immigration act of 1965? Would 'ol Ted the Swimmer be where he is if his brother survived? I say no.

I also think the country would not be as radically liberal with the "old guard" Democrats like John and Robert Kennedy allowed to live.

Did Ted Kennedy benefit from his brothers' deaths? I say, in the end, he did. did the black civil wrongs industry gain from the deaths of Robert and John? I say they did. After JFK's death, what happened to the political discourse in America? It became much more partisan, and every President since has become a target for those on the opposite side of the political aisle.

The Democrat party of November 21, 1963 is completely different from theDemocrat party of November 22, 2003. A John Kennedy in today's radical socialist Democart party is a Zell Mliier--villified and eventually forced out due to differences in ideology.

Which gets me to my point. If Kennedy was allowed to complete his first term, dodge his scandals, complete a second term, enact more tax cuts, face down some more communists, (I believe the Cuban missils Crisis woried many com-symps in America) approcach the Vietnam Conflict from a different angle, and lead the nation in a more sensible direction socially, who knows what the country would be like? (I'll leave that to you guys) I believe he was murdered in a successful attempt to skew the political landscape in a radical liberal direction--those who were in on it were rewarded with power. On Judgement Day, they will realize they sold their souls, and everything they gained on Earth was all for naught.

While Jackie was truly grief-stricken, she doesn't look it here-- in fact, she has a hint of a smile on her face

You must be looking at a different picture. She most certainly looks grief-stricken.

WOW! I never saw that pic before. Everything I have read about LBJ came true in that pic. He was a Ruthless SOB....

Huh? Does your bong need a refill? Who says the Congressman is "winking"? And if he is indeed winking that makes LBJ a murderer?

Lee Harvey Oswald did it. Unless you can show how Ted Kennedy or LBJ paid Oswald to perform the act these speculations are uninformed distractions.

I can't show how the leading Nazis that I believe were involved in the Reichstag Fire got Marinus van der Lubbe to take part in setting that fire. Does that mean that my belief that those leading Nazis were involved in setting that fire is "uninformed speculation"?

The congressman winked back, and Lady Bird smiled

Lady Bird is NOT smiling in the photo. She looks like she has something bitter in her mouth, and wants to spit it out. The experience must have been very distasteful indeed for a classy dame like that. Is this imbicile McClellan suggesting that Lady Bird was in on the "murder"? This whole nonsense is beyond revolting.

MUST have a conspiracy? Only one makes sense to me...
1. Joe Kennedy promised Giancana free reign under JFK.
2. Sam Giancana won the 1960 election for Kennedy by fraudulently delivering Illinois.
3. A.G. Robert Kennedy went after the "Mob" with everything he had, leaving Giancana and the Cosa Nostra badly bloodied.
4. The deal now broken, Giancana erases the 1960 election with 3 gunshots.
5. In 1968 the Cosa Nostra hires a Palestinian loner, Sirhan, to finish the job by knocking off RFK. It is done.

We know a great deal about Oswald. Where he was nearly every day, who he associated with, how he behaved, what motivated him. Those who talk about LBJ doing it, or the mob doing it, or whoever, forget about Oswald. They are uninformed speculations. In order to make a coherent argument that LBJ was responsible you have to actually connect LBJ to Oswald.

Lifton proves both that this cover up was accomplished, as well as precisely how.

Lifton's book is absurd.

"As they drove back to the ranch, Clark opened the envelope. It contained the policy manual for protection of the president."

HAHAHA!!! McClellan is really a moron. My wife's father was a Secret Service agent. HE tells me EVERY ONE of them had this "manual" (more a series of memos) memorized. It was well known even among outside law enforcement officers. The idea that LBJ was giving Clark (which never happened anyway) some sort of top-secret knowledge here is beyong laughable. What a joke.
