So, What Sort of Free Republic Should This Be?

I have a hunch you'll find this interesting.

Yes, all the interesting threads are now more difficult to find.

Thank you for posting this. You have a thankless job, and you've bailed me out many a time correcting title typos, inserting articles into threads, etc and I appreciated each and every time you did so. And you did it with all this other nonsense going on to be monitored.

Thanks again.

Choking tears back, Jim,

But we DO [I HOPE ALL]

AT LEAST I DO ENJOY YOU, JOHN AND CERTAINLY FR THE WAY IT IS.

If 'addiction' is any clue, it's well past enjoyment and seems to live close to or in euphoria quite a lot.

MUCH APPRECIATION is too weak but about the best I can do.

Heh.... a system designed to tick off most everyone. "How come mine got moved and this one didn't" is a common victim lament already

So everyone is expected to give up the good stuff because of a few whiners? If the Mods simply stated that the board is too full at this time, any mature adult would accept that (especially knowing that their article was frivolous and belonged in another forum when they posted).

Yes, because they aren't mature about it.

Before you move posts, don't you think a bit of time ahould be given?

The 9-11 attacks started out as a small plane hitting the tower, (according to the news media, it was an apparent accident). By letting the thread continue, the true story developed.

I don't think a story about a plane hitting a building is the kind of stuff that ever got moved to chat.

I could support a variety of names including that one.

I do think it needs to be fairly obvious and to have the flavor of informal clusterings of diverse citizens chatting about a wide variety of issues.

It would be nice to have some clear description links of what it all means etc.

Now, I went to a helluvalot of trouble and John a helluvalot of reprogramming effort to give us the ability to separate the forums so people would quit screaming at us for fluff in the news categories. I'll be damned if I'm going to change it all back.

Understood and _very_ much appreciated. Perhaps I'm not being clear enough. I don't want it the current forums to return to a single forum of latest posts. I just suggest:

(1) "Latest Posts" to be the option people pick for "All Latest Posts" from all forums.

(2) The topical forums (e.g. News/Activism. Religion, etc.) be the option people pick for latest News/Activism posts, latest Religion posts, etc.

That way those who want to cover all the bases at once easily can do so, those who want to cover the latest in just one forum can do so easily and those who have misc/off topics posts can still do so without the huge incentive to post improperly in the News/Activism forum.

Perhaps I'm not understanding your response correctly (if not, please clarify, as many seem to share my idea), but I really do think our proposal will benefit both posters and those who have to monitor the posters.

What would you consider a reasonable moratorium for threads posted in the wrong forum?

The latest posts pages being full of crap is what the complaints were about.

If the buffet or menu

caused or at least allowed the user to

CHOOSE WHICH and even ALL of the fora to collect "LATEST POSTS" HEADINGS FROM,

then, their complaints would logically diminish wholesale or be utterly idiotic and irrational.

It seems to me.

You're welcome!

The issue of "My comments" changing to "New posts to you" after you've posted a comment is another source of frustration!

Unless someone has hacked into my account, my body has been taken over by aliens or one of my multiple personalites is posting without my knowledge, I KNOW DAMN WELL I JUST POSTED A COMMENT!!!

~SIGH~ I feel better now...

Excuse me while I check the "my comments" at the top of the page to see if I just commented...

Free Republic has a tendency at times, to drift away from the discussion and exchange of conservative values, ideas and beliefs, into what I call the soap opera of gossip, heresay and irrelevency. Free Republic is meant for serious political engagement. Free Republic is not "Peyton Place".

There are still some topics and threads that are grandfathered in to the news forum, but there will be a day coming soon (just a few more reprogramming jobs) when I'm going to delete the fluff topics from the news forum and move them all to the general forum, and then all forums will be separated even further.

Looking forward to that day. Thanks.
