I agree.

Have you considered my ideas in post 235? Would appreciate your responses.

We have had to endure tens of thousands of postings about Laci Peterson and you are only now just figuring this out?

You think the Laci threads are numerous? Click here!

When click to see LATEST POSTS
doesn't that include ALL
the LATEST POSTS
from ALL
the forums?
Or what?

it only takes me to news/activism

When you are in the New/Activism forum and go to "latest posts" you get the latest articles posted on the New/Activism forum.

When you are in the General Interest forum and go to "latest posts" you get the latest articles posted in the General Interest forum.

Same procedure applies for the other forums.

You also have the option to see either just all the articles posted or the replys to the articles by choosing between "threads" or "messages" at the top right on the latest posts page (which itself is confusing. Shouldn't it be "latest threads" and "latest posts"?).

If not, perhaps you could allow a few frivolous posts, and move them if the board gets too full.

Heh.... a system designed to tick off most everyone. "How come mine got moved and this one didn't" is a common victim lament already.

I think the seperate forums work only if they are enforced. And I think the concept of seperate forums is a good one.

Responses, reactions, rebuttals?

I'm not a computer expert, but I suspect your alternative suggestion may be more time-consuming and complicated to program.

Still makes for a crowded page....though I may not be visualizing your suggestion correctly

Interesting ideas. Even then you'd find that some people would abuse the system by claiming the future of Western civilization hinges on getting as many people as possible to read their article which fits their agenda or gets them banner ad revenue.

Another idea would be to group news items into their own forums: War on Terror, the California Recall (passe but a good example), Terri Schiavo, Rush Limbaugh, and once the news item has petered out it can be archived and retired to make room for new forums.

I clicked and saw the Freeper Beeper, but how does one activate it or make it one's own?

(BTW, I like your faces that do things!)

Still makes for a crowded page....though I may not be visualizing your suggestion correctly.

"All Latest Posts" would be crowded, and deliberately so for those who want one-page access to the main recent posts on all forums together.

Those who want only the latest News/Activism posts would go straight to "News/Activism" link on the home page.

This suggestion wouldn't eliminate all errant posts, but it would reduce their number by reducing the incentive to post in News/Activism just to ensure some response even when one knew it wasn't the proper place.

And I think the concept of seperate forums is a good one.

But would you object to an optional "Super Latest Posts" page that draws from all the forums?

You shouldn't have to do anything. If the little window opened up, just keep it open and as long as you're logged in you will get pinged.

No -If it can be done, that be fine! Especially if it were pretty customizable. People could use it to filter out and filter in what they want to see.
