Lost Kennedy tapes Dallas WBAP 820 AM: Running to the Hill
Me

Posted on 11/22/2003 11:15:28 AM PST by Treeless Branch

I live in Dallas and am listening to WBAP, which is re-broadcasting its braodcast from the day Kennedy was killed. Very interestng. First eyewitness interviewed by WBAP claims there were 2 shots fired from the hill (i.e. grassy knoll). She then says that she ran towards the hill where the shots were fired in order to see who fired the shots. I find this revealing because people who support the lone gunmen theory always support their position by stating that shots could not have come from the grassy knoll because the eyewitneses ran towards the knoll, i.e. why would someone risk their lives by running towards where shots were being fired from? Apparently, this first eyewitness gives the answer: to find the gunmen.

This news is old. This witness testified the same thing 40 years ago in other media.

All of a sudden, I hear a Ry Cooder guitar note coming OVER and BEHIND my RIGHT shoulder about as far away from speakers as possible. Now since the speakers themselves were blocked by two walls it could NOT have been a direct note from them, but an echo that sounded EXACTLY like a true note.

Your problem is listening to Ry Cooder.

The cashier from Ruby's Nightclub is a "VERY credible witness?"

There were also many witness.....I suppose "not-credible".....who stated there were 2 shooters, probably cuban. The number( 12) is a NEW ONE TO ME.

"......two of whom followed him to the theater where he was apprehended after trying to shot another cop......"

THIS IS Another COMPLETELY "NEW" ONE---(the following to the theatre)!!

The movie theatre testimony is totally discredible in that none of the people in the theatre were questioned nor their names taken down!

It was an easy shot.

Easy shot my A**!

"Carlos Hathcock, a retired gunnery sergeant, who has been described as the most famous sniper in American history. He was credited, while on duty in Vietnam, with 93 confirmed kills. He said he attempted to reconstruct the shooting, incorporating all the elements, height, distance, moving target and time frame, but no matter how many times he or his team attempted it, they could never duplicate Oswald's alleged performance." Read all about it!

There's some  very interesting stuff in the  KLIF broadcast. Creepy how they keep playing music and commercials after the initial reports, then eventually they completely pre-empt programming.

Secret Service agent killed, shooter on 3rd floor of TSBD with .30 cal rifle; suspect in custody (before Oswald captured)
Black child covered in blood brought into hospital... really strange stuff in this broadcast.

LOL, JOJO, I'm still laughing about your 'uppity' comment! I scrolled back through all the posts and didn't see any other replies by her, WHEN was she 'uppity' the previous time??

Understand that I hesitate to post. Don't want to seem like I'm beating up on someone, but in order to answer you, and to have an opportunity to hopefully educate someone….

"The tape is a culture shock of low-tech malfunctioning equipment, bad set, and chaos in reporting."

These links are a good start, but of course by no means the complete story on some of the history of television. I'm still impressed at how they managed to work out the problems that they did relatively quickly.

Got a little ahead of myself. I want to say I'm still very impressed, very much in awe at how they surmounted the problems of video recording.

If I were a rich man, I'd love to have one of those old 2 inch machines, the same as some like to collect jukeboxes....

But all the education in Television wasn't the point of my letter, JoJo. You called a very educated history major, 'uppity', and inferred that she had done the same in a previous post???

Well, I read it as such.

Back then it was far from "low tech" or a "comedy of errors". And events like that don't come with an instruction manual.

I think you must be a really big TV buff, not about watching, but in the technicalities and production parts.

She was watching original tape from 1963, and I imagine it was a madhouse and looked pretty silly, comparing it to what we see now.

I sat and watched TV for days, when JFK was killed. Wish I could see some of the original tapes. I was just jumping on you for jumping on her.

You also may have confused her with NittanyLion, who made remarks in a previous post. Carol

No, I didn't get anyone confused, per the link. But I don't even know who anyone is around here for that matter.

My point is that anyone who wasn't around then shouldn't be so quick to comment on the technical aspects of it, without having an appreciation of all the behind the scenes logistics involved. We didn't have satellites then, high quality microwave connections were at a premium, cameras and VTR's weighed hundreds of pounds, reels of tape cost hundreds of dollars, likely most of the video equipment was still tube type, (which was cranky and had to be tweaked a lot)....

It's a wonder we got the coverage we did then.
