The Council on American-Islamic Relations once again is demanding an apology for an alleged slur of Muslims, this time asserting a veteran cartoonist has cryptically defamed Islam.
The Washington, D.C.-based group sent out a dispatch to its e-mail list after a "B.C." cartoon last week by Johnny Hart was publicly questioned on a Washington Post Web chat page.
The cartoon shows a caveman entering an outhouse at night, and then saying, from inside, "Is it just me, or does it stink in here?"

So Islam has a patent on the crescent moon logo?
Some people will see what they want to see, I guess.

Check the "full article" link just above -- there is at least a small version of the cartoon. Which is perfectly harmless.

They won't condemn people that kill 3000 innocents, but they'll jump down Hart's throat over a comic that's not even very funny. Idiots.

Oddly enough, outhouses were actually built with crescent moon shaped holes in their doors from time immemorial. I don't know what the origin of this design is, but it didn't start with B.C.

The Post interviewed a number of analysts who believed Hart's outhouse strip was an intentional defamation of Islam.
Marshall Blonsky, professor of semiotics at the New School in New York, said for one thing, people don't slam outhouse doors.
Now
that is funny!

It's a very peculiar "cartoon", isn't it?! It's not what you'd call "funny", and the "slam" panel would make more sense if the door had been open in the first panel...not to mention Johnny Hart is known to often address "religious ideas" in his B.C. strip...so what to make of it?!
In my opinion, I happen to agree with the CAIR interpretation of his intent, but sadly for them, "reading between the lines" is not actionable, and Mr. Hart certainly has plausible deniability here...the ambiguity of the cartoon is the beauty of it, and the "foo" comment is exactly right on, LOL!

Oh, for goodness sake. Look at what I pulled up on Google:
And that's just on the first PAGE when you type in "outhouse" under "Image search."
I cannot believe that someone has been in this country as long as that CAIR jerk has and does not know this is the traditional way outhouse doors were ventilated!!! Hart should sue CAIR for harassment!
