Bombshell: Kobe Accuser Had Sex with Key Witness
The Globe ^ | 11/20/03 | Globe

Posted on 11/21/2003 11:44:43 AM PST by Smogger

A new bombshell revelation in the Kobe Bryant case threatens to destroy the credibility of the prosecution’s key witness - whose testimony could send the basketball superstar to jail for years. Sources told GLOBE that the 19-year-old woman who has accused Bryant of rape told them she had sex with the prosecution’s star witness Bobby Pietrack - a week before she met Bryant.

Pietrack, a 23-year-old bellhop at the resort where the alleged rape took place, is the first person Katelyn Faber told about her encounter with Bryant. He can testify about her emotional state and physical appearance at the time.

But legal experts tell us that if there was a sexual encounter between Katelyn and the bellhop, it could wreck his credibility and sink the case of the Eagle County, Colo., prosecutor.

For all the details of this blockbuster story, pick up the new issue of GLOBE.

You might want to read To Kill a Mockingbird sometime, I'm sure you'd fine that guy guilty as sin though.

Like a decades-old work of fiction about the Jim Crow South has any relevance here.

If a woman I care about is mentally unstable, suicidal, sleeps around, and frequents men's hotel rooms, I would have a tough time believing that on one of those encounters where she set the whole thing up ( stayed late, arranged the tour, snuck back to the hotel room, etc) that she was raped rather than it be a sexual encounter. Sorry, it's just common sense.

Don't kid yourself... you don't care about such a woman at all. Everyone gets a poke.

Your "common sense" is the rapists' best friend. You're giving them a built-in alibi.

"Nut or slut" is alive and well on FR. Congratulations.

Finally, if even a feminist, liberal, attorney like Susan Estrich, who is also a rape victim, exactly the person you would think would support a case like this can see that this whole case is a 'trainwreck', and questions how the rape shield laws are applied, you may want to think twice about this ridiculously stance you're taking on this that ignores any and every new evidence that comes out.

Bad cases make bad law.

The rape shield laws do far more good than harm. Removing them would do far more harm than good, as the vast majority of the beneficiaries would be genuine rapists, not the falsely accused.

I hope you are never a victim of a crime wherein its just your word against the word of the suspect and that a prosecutorial agency's only filing decision is monetary.

It's a sad fact that prosecutorial discretion will consider the financial wherewhithall of the potential defendent, among other things. Knowing Kobe Bryant's resources, the DA had to be especially certain of his case.

"Nut or slut" fans should take note.

What lie is she supposed to have told? Are you assuming she did not tell the investigators all?

I'm not assuming anything, I'm going by the information out there thus far. My comment was directed to someone who was getting all worked up because the accusations this time weren't about Kobe but about the accuser. Is it OK to launch into a character assassination when it comes to Kobe but not to question the credibility of the accuser when more information surfaces about her? We are talking about destroying someone's life and career if the charges are false, so I take that seriously.

I don't know if she did or did not, so would not presume to say she lied when I have know way of knowing. Wouldn't you agree if she told them right upfront about it, that she did not lie?

I don't not that either and we don't know if Kobe is a rapist. I posted that she was accused of lying and not that she lied. My point is this: If you are going to trash Kobe without evidence of his guilt, then, don't get upset when the tables turn. My comment that she is accused of lying stems from reading the article posted on this thread:

Sources told GLOBE that the 19-year-old woman who has accused Bryant of rape told them she had sex with the prosecution's star witness Bobby Pietrack - a week before she met Bryant.

If this is true … had she told the prosecutors about having sex with the bellhop, they wouldn't put him on the stand as a star witness. So the conclusion is that she didn't tell them the truth.

I meant that the prosecutor only considers how much money it will take to bring a case to trial.

Translation...better an innocent guy to be convicted than for a woman to have her own RELEVANT behavior come out in court.

Not even close to accurate. Let me help...

Better that an innocent guy, who got himself into a predicament of a false rape charge through actions he could have easily avoided, have to face a tough ordeal, than that dozens of rapists be enabled to go on fishing expeditions to humiliate and intimidate their victims.

The beneficiaties of your largesse would overwhelningly be real, live rapists.

So Kobe is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt by an impartial jury, while you have already tried and convicted her within the confines of your teenie weenie hero worshipping mind of being a gold digging mega slut and a skunk and a fraud.

My hero? I DESPISE basketball, and could not give a damn about Kobe Bryant. He has sinned against his wife, and opened himself up to this. But he should suffer the anger of his wife, NOT scams of filthy whores who can lie with impunity, protect their identity, get her Mom's friend in the D.A.'s office to trump up charges, and turn his life upside down. Everyone in that town knows she is a slut. Her panties have the semen of TWO MEN in it (which my wife says is the most digusting thing she has ever heard). She is a lying slut. There is no reasonable doubt about that--no doubt at all. He is GUILTY as sin. But she is guilty of fraud, and when Bryant is acquitted (if that is possible in this Cracker town), she should be charged herself and jailed for her deception.

Funny, how different it can sound without the spin

Saber, I think in most cases the victims sexual past is not relevant, as in most stranger cases. But in a cases like this it is relevant. The rape shield law is operating properly in this case. There is no discussion in court of how many partners she has had, etc. There is a limited discussion about who she may have had sex with immediately before and after the alleged rape.

Poontang makes people do lots of stupid things.

Break up marriages, marry the wrong person, kill the wife and dump her into the harbor, go broke paying child support...

I am surprised that after 600+ posts no one pointed out to you that the alleged rape victim is not the defendant.

Susan Estrich can hardly be considered a voice of reason. She thinks Juanita Broaddrick is a liar too.

When you spin it?

We understand that the previous sexual behavior of a woman doesn't entitle men so inclined to a free poke without her consent. There is a desire in this forum to erode that understanding.

The rape shield law is operating properly in this case. There is no discussion in court of how many partners she has had, etc. There is a limited discussion about who she may have had sex with immediately before and after the alleged rape.

Team Kobe has disobeyed the judge's orders in the preliminary hearing. Team Kobe is looking to push envelopes and establish precedents that will leave future rapists happy for their efforts.

Team Kobe didn't need to go into slime mode to get relevant sexual questions that might provide reasonable doubt into the trial, they served notice that they will destroy his accuser any way they can.

Team Kobe/FR is giddy at the prospect.

The name thing? Geez, the Judge and the Prosecution did not even seek sanctions or anything. It was a minor deal. Is that all that has you in a twist?
