Coulter gets what she wanted at CU
Conservative author says she thrives on battling liberal critics

Ann Coulter knew what she was getting into when she agreed to speak at arguably the most liberal hotbed in Colorado on Thursday night.
That's why she came.
"How many normal females are going to want to stand up and be called a Nazi and a racist?" said the conservative author and columnist. "As luck would have it, I happen to enjoy it. ... It perks me up to see liberals have nothing in the arsenal."
About 2,000 people filled the University of Colorado's Macky Auditorium on Thursday night to hear Coulter criticize Democrats in light of the war in Iraq. About half hissed and booed, and the other half laughed at her prickly humor and thanked her with a standing ovation.
Some, like Kevin Cooper of Louisville, said he wanted to hear another viewpoint, even if it contradicted his own.
"You can't make a viewpoint with one side. You have to understand the other side, too," he said.
Coulter said CU was typical of most colleges she speaks at, with a little extra heckling. But one thing surprised her, she said.
"I've never seen this on a college campus before: They were applauding Saddam Hussein," she said after her speech. "I was a little taken aback."
Coulter was referring mainly to one question about when the United States will put the interests of the world before its own.
"I think removing Saddam is good for the world. That question presupposed it's not," she said.
In response, some audience members said that because they do not support the war doesn't mean they support Hussein.
Coulter criticized most of the crowd's questions, calling them not intelligent or thoughtful.
"I go to these college campuses and I'm witnessing a breakdown in cognitive thought," she said.
But criticism Thursday night was mutual. In response to Coulter's advocacy of racial profiling to weed out terrorists, some called her racist and others stomped out of the auditorium.
"It's one thing to talk about liberals or conservatives," said Kerry Kite, CU's diversity director. "There's a big difference to come out and crack jokes that have some sort of meaning. But to just defame other cultures and ethnicities is just plain ignorant."

Oh, I don't know. While there isn't a "white" culture per se, there is certainly an Anglo-American tradition. There are also values that are deeply ingrained in portions of that tradition that could rightly be called "culture." A majority of "white" Americans share a common religious faith (Christian). There is also the commonality of faith in the Jewish "culture," which is largely "white." Another good example is the relentless bashing and degrading of traditionally southern culture. The "defaming" of these cultures, however, is fashionable, so it is unlikely that this dim bulb is capable of seeing the left's actions and the promotion of their ideologies in that light let alone understand that WE are deeply offended or that what they are doing has become completely unacceptable and that we are losing our ability to be "tolerant," and rightfully so. It is also key as to why the democRATs have alienated the south. If they have no respect for us, they shouldn't expect that we will have respect for them.

December 27, 2001IN RESPONSE TO THE attempted bombing last week of an American Airlines jet by Tariq Raja -- aka Abdel Rahim, aka Richard "Saltonstall" Reid IV, aka "Biff" -- the airlines sprang to action with random passenger shoe checks.
According to The New York Times, there is no discernible pattern in the airlines' choice of fliers targeted for aggressive footwear examination. At the Atlanta airport, for example, the passengers whose shoes were searched "included a flight attendant, an elderly black man, a white man wearing a cowboy hat and boots, and an Asian woman with two small children."
New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman responded to this latest attack by summarily announcing that our only choices are to "become less open as a society" or simply "to live with much higher levels of risk."
I think I have another solution. It's something I like to call "ethnic profiling." My logic is this: There is a common thread hidden within 20 years of relentless attacks on America by Muslim extremists: In every one of these attacks by Muslim extremists, there appears to be one or more Muslim extremists involved. This ought to help the airlines engage in more accurate risk assessment.
Tariq "Biff" Raja attended the same mosque as Zacarias Moussaoui, the suspected 20th hijacker in the Sept. 11 attack. (The New York Times has yet to report Tariq's connection to the mosque, though the paper will surely print that fact before any of the media will ever breathe a word about the story reported in the San Francisco Examiner that American jihadist John Walker's father left Mrs. Walker for another man.)
The men who used passenger jets to attack America on Sept. 11 were Muslim extremists.
Last year, our warship, the USS Cole, was attacked by Muslim extremists.
In 1998, U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania were bombed by Muslim extremists, killing 212 people and wounding thousands.
In 1996, Muslim extremists exploded a truck bomb outside an Air Force housing complex in Saudi Arabia, killing 19 and injuring hundreds more.
In 1995, five Americans were killed in a car bomb explosion executed by Muslim extremists.
In 1993, the World Trade Center was bombed by Muslim extremists, killing six and injuring thousands.
Also in 1993, Muslim extremists plotted to assassinate then U.S. President George Bush. (Intriguingly, the word "assassin" comes from a Muslim sect active in the 11th to 13th centuries known as "the Assassins" for their religious practice of murdering infidels.)
In 1988, another passenger jet, Pan Am flight 103, was bombed by Muslim extremists, killing 270 people.
In 1986, Muslim extremists bombed a West Berlin discotheque frequented by U.S. servicemen.
In 1985, Muslim extremists seized an Italian cruise ship, the Achille Lauro, and murdered Leon Klinghoffer, a 69-year-old, wheelchair-bound American.
In 1983, Muslim extremists blew up U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut, killing 241 American servicemen.
In 1982, Muslim extremists bombed the U.S. Embassy in Beirut, killing 49 people, including 17 Americans.
In 1979, Muslim extremists stormed the U.S. Embassy in Iran and held American Embassy staff hostage for 444 days.
So naturally, it took the airlines completely by surprise last week when the passenger who tried to detonate a sneaker bomb on a passenger jet turned out to be a Muslim extremist...
