MEXICO CITY (AP) - A former Mexican consul to Lebanon has been arrested on charges of helping a smuggling ring move Arab migrants into the United States from Mexico, federal agents said Thursday. Imelda Ortiz, detained late Wednesday in Mexico City, is the fourth alleged member of the ring captured in three days.

Boughader Mucharrafille, whom authorities identified as being of "Arab origin," was sentenced to a year in prison in the United States last year after being convicted of smuggling 200 illegal Lebanese migrants across the border, the authorities said.

A year in prison. That's not much more than a coffee break. He'll be out on parole in two months. Try 50 years or public execution.

If their passport-issuance process is dirty, just imagine how corrupt their fraud-facilitation document, the "matrciula consular" is.

"... smuggling 200 illegal Lebanese migrants across the border..."

The big issue is, what if 200 terrorists are able to bluff or bribe their way into Mexico, and from there sneak into the United States?

At least Gray Davis has a plan -- just give them California driver licenses! I know I would feel much safer knowing that any terrorists illegally in this country will at least be able to get driver licenses. Maybe our liberal politicians who are so paranoid about citizens will give the terrorists permission to buy guns and explosives, too.

Everyone is always so sure Canadian borders are for illegal Arabs, I knew Mexico will become increasingly more accesible. Sure, give illegals the consular card. Sure give the illegals driver's license, that works, as my tagline shows.

As far back as 1985 according to INS officers I talked to at Brown Field, San Diego, 20% of the illegals coming across the Mexican Border were from the middle east or the orient.

Colin Powell assured us all that no terrorist has been known to have sneaked across our southern border, so to him it isn't an issue.

One would wonder why a Mexican, wih a few hundred saved dollars, wouldn't just get to Canada first. Oh, yeah...all the successful invaders sending word back how America is one plump eagle to pluck. Thank you, Democrats.

No surprises here. Of course something like this would happen. Mexican documents are very easily purchased on the streets of Mexico --- but so are USA documents.

Both borders are easy for anyone to get across but there wouldn't be as many Canadian officials eager and willing to participate ---- they don't have the mordida system anywhere close to where Mexico has it.

Since then, there has been no evidence of that any terrorists have not successfully enteringed the United States from Mexico.

There, that's the way that line should read. I mean, if they entered successfully, they wouldn't have left any evidence, now would they.

OBTW, I just love posting this picture of a diary that was found in a backpack on an illegal smuggling trail into the U.S. from Mexico...yes, the writing is in Arabic.

"Homeland security is a joke."

I just wish I could laugh. Homeland security is an expensive farce.

ATTENTION: PRESIDENT BUSH. The Mexican border has been a sieve for years. It's an accident waiting to happen.

I don't believe that the Mexican authorities are serious about stopping anyone from coming over the border. It's just a dog and pony show down there. They are interested in only one thing - exporting more of their masses onto American taxpayers.
