self

Posted on 11/12/2003 9:49:33 AM PST by hsmomx3

Anyone hear about this?

"The Universal National Service Act of 2003 "amends the Military Selective Service Act to authorize the military registration of females" and declares "that it is the obligation of every U.S. citizen, and every other person residing in the United States, between the ages of 18 and 26 to perform a two-year period of national service"

No, it would not. I just don't see the point in wasting time and effort the asinine argument you're attempting to make.

Agreed but conscription is not slavery.

According to that definition it is slavery. Can you come up with a defintion of slavery that doesn't include conscription?

Is jury service slavery? It's involuntary servitude.

Jury service, like military service is the obligation of every citizen if called. Next time you receive a summons for jury duty, tell the judge you object based on the XIII th and watch what happens.

No, it would not.

Prove it. Give a definition, not excuses.

Sure. Involuntary servitude not related to the obligations of a citizen to his or her country.

Unquestionably.

Next time you receive a summons for jury duty, tell the judge you object based on the XIII th and watch what happens.

Might does not make right.

Slavery involves actual, literal *ownership* of another human -- and while the military can be quite controlling, only the lunatic fringe would truly believe that they actually *own* people as chattel.

Why would the gubmint military be a good place to learn the military 'arts'?
Don't you suspect they teach the military arts about as well as they teach the Constitution?

I learned to appreciate freedom a lot, from '55/'58, courtesy of the US Army.

It is.

Nah, I think they all slunk back into the U.S. after Carter pardoned them...

Involuntary servitude not related to the obligations of a citizen to his or her country.

Thank you.

Now we get down to it. Our government solely derives its powers from the people. We delegate our own powers to it. We cannot delegate powers to the government that we ourselves do not have. I do not have any legitimate power to compel my neighbor to fight, or do anything else against his will. This fact does not change when any number of people collude to deprive another of his rights - it is equally immoral for 1 person to steal from another as it is for 100 million people to steal from another. So too it is with slavery. The powers of delegation do not increase with economies of scale.

We have the right to defend ourselves. We delegate that as a power to the government. That's the extent of it, and it doesn't include making a slave of others. To do so implies that our government has powers that are not delegated from the people, that it has more power than the people, that it has ownership of people. This is alien to our form of government.

Fair enough, but Lee Oswald was learning how to shoot in the US military at just about the same time.

I appreciate your point of reference as a means of understanding your position.

Yours in liberty,

The only hypocrisy I see here is a supposed "GOP Chick" supporting Rangel's attempt to undermine the Administration.

The name "NYC RINO Chick" is not taken. Take it.

It's apparent that you were never in the military. They do "literally" "own" you.

You think that the military doesn't own its members? When you're in you're government property, without question. ie. "Uncle Sam *owns* your a$$!"

Contempt of court does not make you freee..
It makes you an anti-constitutional scofflaw.

And a total clown.
