Anyone hear about this?
"The Universal National Service Act of 2003 "amends the Military Selective Service Act to authorize the military registration of females" and declares "that it is the obligation of every U.S. citizen, and every other person residing in the United States, between the ages of 18 and 26 to perform a two-year period of national service"

Yes, I can. Good, maybe you would be so kind as to share them with us?
But I shudder to think of your definitions of them.
Here, I'll go first.
Slavery is involuntary labor, absent punishment for a crime.

Using your logic concerning a draft, then compulsory education is slavery.
Most public schools today are actually worse than some medium security prisons you could name.

Conservative libertarian, rightwing libertarian, radical localist, Christian patriot, but not a nationalist.
The very concept of "national service" is anethema to restoring liberty, IMO.
Why would the gubmint military be a good place to learn the military 'arts'? Don't you suspect they teach the military arts about as well as they teach the Constitution?

Sorry, but you're a little too far gone for me to try to reason with and I'm not about to play semantics games with someone who equates military service with slavery. That sounds like it comes straight from the DUmmies.

Get over the slavery argument. The Supreme court has ruled on it. See above.

And how do you know that it would "socialist make-work programs?" How many government programs end up being anything else? Will the laws of bureaucracy cease to exist in this particular program? I think not.

"Alternative national service" equals "socialist make-work programs". A big freaking waste of money, and arguably worse than just a military impre.."

The Universal National Service Act of 2003 Introduced by Representative Rangel(D) and Senator Hollings(D)
Yes, slavery, both private (outlawed in 1863 by Republican A. Lincoln) and government (outlawed in 1973 by Republican Richard Nixon) is a Democrat idea.
To: freeeee
OK, I'll admit that I cannot reason with someone who equates conscription with slavery.

The Rangel-Hollings legislation has NO CHANCE! Reason: its a Rat attempt to influence the presidential election. Rangle threatened to reinstitute the draft before the war started-as a way to stop the war!
---> The Rangel-Hollings thing is an attempt to paint the war in Vietnamese colors. Rangel-Hollings = Rats.
To: CholeraJoe
The Supreme court has ruled on it. I see. Is abortion no longer murder?
"As we are unable to conceive upon what theory the exaction by government from the citizen of the performance of his supreme and noble duty of contributing to the defense of the rights and honor of the nation, as the result of a war declared by the great representative body of the people, can be said to be the imposition of involuntary servitude in violation of the prohibitions of the Thirteenth Amendment, we are constrained to the conclusion that the contention to that effect is refuted by its mere statement."
What a bunch of legal hogwash! They are "unable to conceive" it? That's it? No reasoning? And I'm supposed to respect that?

In see nothing constitutionally wrong in a draft/service obligation [with absolutely no deferments] for say a term of one year with a 'no combat clause'..
Call it a citizens duty, a 'rite of passage', -- whatever... But this country needs citizens with constitutional knowledge and trained in self defense.

I take it you fellas would be conciencious objectors to such an act?
Can you give us your legal reasoning to avoid such duty?

I cannot reason with someone who equates conscription with slavery. You can't won't come up with a definition of slavery because any one you would come up with would include conscription, and you know it.
