Dean has made the same fatal mistake that all greedy unexperienced polititians make.
Next year when the Dems realize that Dean is a lost cause, the money will dry up......BIG TIME.....and Dean will be left flapping in the wind!
The demise of the Democrat Party will be better for the health of America than the demise of the Soviet Union and world communism!!!

Too bad reality never follows such a smooth script.
If Hillary parachutes in, she has an even chance of defeating Bush. That's the REAL nightmare scenerio.

"It is unfortunately necessary to factor in the possibility that Hillary Clinton will "parachute in" and take the nomination away from Dean at the last minute."
A serious consideration. Hillary and her handlers are acutely aware of the fact that the "world's smartest woman" could never survive a full year of presidential campaigning without suffering "foot in the mouth" disease. She has enough negatives going for her now without taking the additional risk of lengthy public scrutiny and disclosure. Better she sit in the cat bird's seat watching her competition destroy their credibility (with a little help from her friends of course) and descend at the last possible moment as the "savior" by Democratic Party mandate. This is the major reason McCauliff remains at the helm of the DNC.

Everything seems plausable with the exception of the "snake" Hillary.
She won't take the chance in 2003 for 2004. The odds are too great. [Texas hold-em "all in"?]
No she'll wait for 2008.

I don't believe the name of the game for the democrats is to win the Presidency. I think the real name of the game is to win back the House and Senate. If they can win control of Congress, they could create havoc for President Bush and since he won't be able to run again, they can set up 2008 for Hillary.
In any event, the democrats will screw things up again.

Brilliant analysis. However, I intend to take nothing for granted. President George W. Bush MUST be re-elected or all hell will break loose in the War on Terror under any of the current Democrat candidates and those waiting in the wings, for that matter.
I'm not interested in being complacent, and somehwat resent your otherwise excellent piece because it may make others complacent. I intend to campaign very hard here in the greater Los Angeles area to try to help carry this state for the President and help ensure his re-election. I have not forgotten, nor will I ever forget 9/11/01, the nearly simultaneous anthrax attacks, the DC sniper attacks, and the sacrifices of our armed forces in confronting the terrorism threat ever since.
President Bush has been a giant among world leaders, and a steadfast bulwark between me and those who want to kill me just because I'm an American. So this President deserves my utmost support. The ghosts of those who died on those planes, in the WTC, the Pentagon, the fields of Pennsylvania, and the fields of Afghanistan and Iraq DEMAND at least that much of me. I will not dissapoint them.
So, with all due respect, "Congressman," please let's not take this upcoming election for granted.

I think the real name of the game is to win back the House and Senate.Won't happen. Barring a presidential scandal that makes Watergate look like, well, a third-rate burglary, The Dems have no chance whatsoever to even prevent a further loss of seats in 2004, much less regain control of either chamber. Even they know this, and are thus aiming what little money they have at state races and attempts to retain the Congressional seats they already control.
Practically all current analyses predict meaningful gains for the GOP in both the House and Senate next year. It's even possible - though by no means probable, at least not yet - that we could end up with a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. The Dems are that screwed going into November 2004.

I think the Democrats have already demonstrated clearly their skill in ignoring election laws. Hillary can step in whenever she wants.
As for Dean, he's now won the votes of Metrosexuals with gun racks.

And your point is?
I was walking cross campus to a political science lecture by Professor Deutsch, when the news came across a car radio with students gathered around the car with its windows open, that President Kennedy had been assassinated. Professor Deutsch latter announced that class was cancelled, but then said those who wanted to stay, could. He then delivered a one-hour lecture on the history of political assassinations.
I'd be curious to hear what you think you learned from that event that I did not. And also why you assume I am ignorant.

I think this whole analysis is on the money, except that Hillary is far more dangerous than you allow. She controls the press, she controls huge sums of money, she controls the Democrat Party, and she has FBI files on everybody who ever graduated from high school.
There are many things she and her husband could do to change the balance, such as provoking an international incident of some kind, manipulating their stooges in the FBI, CIA, or other parts of the administration, or if necessary giving President Bush a pair of cement overshoes. I wouldn't put anything past her. And I think she's checking out her parachute right now.
