"No, it just means that we are keeping our people out of harms'way."
If we pull out prematurely and that country implodes and becomes another Afghanistan than we will have only created FAR more danger for ourselves and the American soldiers who gave their lives will have been for nothing.

That damn stolen airplane from Africa is still lurking out there don't forget. I still think that thing will be used in some kind of terror attack.

Isn't it just closing the embassy to protect our government employees? I don't see how it sends the "wrong" message...?

It doesn't I don't think. I wouldn't really mind if it didn't open back up!

Don't know. Face looks vaguely like Bush but the dress is incongruent. Seems like corpses laid out behind him.

Warnings of possible Middle East hijackings
November 7, 2003 - 10:42AM
The US State Department updated its warning on travel to the Middle East today to say that ships and planes could be hijacked in the region.
"Terrorist actions may include suicide operations, bombings, hijackings or kidnappings. These may also involve commercial aircraft and maritime interests," it said in a public announcement replacing one issued on September 30.
The possible threat to ships and planes covered the whole of the Middle East, including the Red Sea, Persian Gulf, the Arabian Peninsula and North Africa, it said.
The State Department has already warned Americans of such threats in East Africa and in Iraq, where the United States is fighting guerrillas opposed to the US occupation.
A State Department official said: "We have a reason for doing this. Without going into details, we have information so we felt we should advise the travelling public."
The warning reminds US citizens that travelling to the Middle East can be dangerous but it does not advise them to stay away from all areas.

Well, gee. I thought all they wanted was for us to withdraw our troops from the Sacred Soil. That wasn't it? Hmmmm. Let's ask them what else they want.

I already posted this before realizing that there was an earlier thread, but I think it adds a few details, so I'm reposting it. And your gripping graphic looked like the appropriate place to make these obervations!
Spain closed its embassy in Baghdad last week and called its civilian personnel home to "review security procedures." According to the statements in the Spanish press, they will be bringing them back in Dec. (when Ramadan is over, in other words).
Bin Laden specifically mentioned Spain in the hit-list in his latest "news-flash from the beyond," and he also threatened a number of other American allies, including Arab states and American interests in Arab states.
I will say that I have been rather scoffing at all the hysteria on FR about "attacks in November," etc., but obviously there's a lot more to it than just the ravings of the Elvis bin Laden.

Don't read Arabic. But I have written some Jihadi Haiku.
Think I'm getting their style down. Probably close enough to their flowery rehtoric.
The darkness quickens,
A cloud gathers unseen,
perfume permeates the air.
The believers walk,
unscathed,
the unbelievers writhe.
The Breath of Allah,
rejuvenates the believers,
smites the unbelievers.
The Djinn dances on,
the house of Ramzan,
fires touch the clouds.

This is a bit different than closing military installations. This has to be reaction to imminency.
