Wells College Prof: Republicans Should be Forcibly Lobotomized (Left-wing Campus Loony Alert)

As reported in Front Page Magazine, http://frontpagemag.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=10699, the Wells College Republicans yesterday published a study showing that Dems outnumber Republicans on the social sciences/humanities faculties by a ratio of 92%/8%.

In response, a Wells prof sent a campus-wide email calling Republicans "stupid" and calling for Republicans to be forcibly lobotomized. See press release below from the Wells Republicans.

Wells College Professor: Republicans Should be Forcibly Lobotomized
Prof Labels Republicans “Stupid”

College Republicans: “A Conservative Prof Saying Similar Thing would be Gone”

AURORA, N.Y. (Nov. 7)--Responding to a study showing a gross imbalance of Democrats over Republicans on the faculty of Wells College, located in Aurora, NY, a Wells professor distributed a campus-wide email calling for Republicans to be forcibly lobotomized and labeling Republicans “stupid.”

On Thursday, November 6th, the Wells Republicans issued a press release describing the study they had conducted of the political party registrations of the members of the social sciences and humanities faculties at the college. The study revealed that members of parties of the left (Democrats, Greens, Working Families) outnumbered members of parties of the right (Republicans and Conservatives) by a ratio of 92%/8%. The online FrontPage Magazine promptly picked up the story. See article: http://frontpagemag.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=10699

Responding to the press release and study, Wells Professor Tom Vawter sent an email to all members of the Wells community calling Republicans “stupid.” He closed his email with this quote: “’Lobotomies for Republicans: It's not just a good idea; it’s the Law!’ --Yellow Dog.”

Wells Republican Chairman Kristy Lee Hochenberger, a junior from Syracuse, NY, responded to Vawter’s comments: “We are outraged by Professor Vawter’s comments. Calling Republicans “stupid” is wrong and misguided. Calling for all Republicans to be forcibly lobotomized is frightening,” said Hochenberger.

“A conservative professor saying a similar thing would be gone. If a professor made an analogous comment in response to a press release from a liberal women’s group, he would be out of a job by sundown. Cries of ‘hate crime,’ ‘threats of violence’ and ‘misogyny’ would echo through the land. Feminist and liberal leaders would be flying into Aurora from around the country to support the beleaguered students and call for the punishment of the professor. The national media would focus on the story.”

Added Hochenberger: “In yesterday’s press release, we cited the experience of a number of Wells students who are reluctant to express their Republican or conservative views, given the intimidating atmosphere that some of the liberal professors on the faculty have created. Prof. Vawter has unwittingly given a perfect illustration of the kind of intolerant, intimidating attitudes that the Republican students described in yesterday’s press release.”

Concluded Hochenberger: “We call on the Wells College administration, and in particular Wells College President Lisa Marsh Ryerson, to condemn Prof. Vawter’s intemperate language and to take measures to ensure that Republicans at Wells will be free to express themselves without fear of this kind of hateful and threatening response.”

Republicans are smart, very smart, not to study this crap.

Hey, I teach that crap. Of course, I teach that western culture and art is superior to all others (I'm not so subtle about it) and the students tend to agree - they haven't been brainwashed quite yet.

What's needed is more kids paying their own way thru college. You get much more intolerant of the crap, when it's your own money on the line.

They have to tolerate it, unless they want to fail courses they need for their degrees.

Students know that these professors are losers who will seek revenge through failing grades if a student speaks out against the liberal professor's opinions.

(just don't go into gory details on FR)

We'll see how the FR community responds after a few of the invading *Aztlan Nationalists* in California get their hands on Jim Rob one of these days.

You know what they say about a liberal who's been mugged.

Ho-hum. This guy's just another pinhead who's off in a corner congratulating himself "I really struck a nerve, yuk yuk." Fortunately there's a social restraint applicable when these morons actually start to take themselves seriously (and there isn't much of a line between this adolescent trash-talk and the real thing) - mine is standing in a corner at the moment, loaded with alternating buckshot and slug.

I am unsure if I agree with this either. I would think that, you report, they decide would be better. More than likely, they will decide in favor of your opinions.

They violated the rules against violent posts. Particularly given that the essence of this post is about the violent suggestion made by the professor, we do not to respond in kind and give the liberals the chance to say "see, they do exactly the same kind of thing."

FR posting guidelines: "Examples of inappropriate posts are those that are . . . promoting violence."

I would think that, you report, they decide would be better.

The superiority of (at least) western art to all others is not something to decide, it is something to accept. If anyone can come up with the non-western equivalent of Beethoven, Van Gogh, Shakespeare, Michelangelo, etc. then there is room for debate. Otherwise...why not accept the truth?

BTW, my students are lucky if they can recognize Da Vinci's Mona Lisa (some thought it was painted by Picasso), much less debate the value of western culture!

Exactly. And can't you imagine all the leading liberal lights, flocking to the campus to "support" the students, and hold press conferences demanding the professor's firing and criminal prosecution?

Such Liberals are so profoundly ignorant and disturbed it never ceases to amaze me. They aren't called the "Loony Left" without reason. Large segments of that group in academia have chemical and other mental disturbances, as well as more damage from higher levels of drug and alcohol abuse, and won't be happy until the rest of the world is as "lobomotized" AS THEY ALREADY ARE. There is a reason why the Left dominates academia -- who in their right mind would want to spend their lives teaching if they have the intelligence to actually DO something with their lives? The truly "best and brightest" PhD holders are pursuing professional careers, not wasting away in academia. Statistically, it is also very interesting to note that the balance is closer to 50/50 when you get into GRADUATE and professional faculties, and take out the vulgar mob of pseudo-intellectuals in the undergraduate faculties.

Hey everyone, Wells GOP chairman here...

My officers and I have a meeting with Pres. Ryerson Monday morning at 9am...

we'll see how this goes!

On a side note, my poor roommate/best friend is terrified that I'm going to get either kicked out or put on probation.

Most students tell me that if I think my views need to be addressed in class then speak up.

Your friends are correct.

I just finished (at 36 years of age) a B.S. at University of California, Davis. It has the unfortunate nickname of "Mini-Berkley," because the liberal/socialist/pro-terrorist crowd is overwhelmingly prevalent.

However, with each class I took, where the hard-left agenda was pushed as the Gospel, I consistantly fought back, in class. Nothing makes a Prof. stick to the facts then being embarrassed by a student who, point by point, dispels their liberal mantras. They weren't happy about it, but I also produced top-notch results, both in tests and the various papers I had to write (Anthro classes were particularly unpleasant, due to having to read so much PC-addled excrement).

While the liberal professors and I butted heads, and they knew me by the sound of my voice, I also won their respect, and have many good references and contacts.

Stick to your guns, make sure your facts are perfect, and don't let them continue with their bald-faced lies...

Of course, I must admit I did enjoy poking a finger in the eye of all the brain-dead liberals... Especially amusing was (during a display of all the PLO "heroes" who were suicide bombers), walking around the campus in a white T-shirt with, in big black letters, "Kill ARAFAT" on the chest... WOW!!! Watch that put a twist in their knickers! :-P

Be well,

Glad to hear of your success in standing up to the profs.

I agree that the Wells students should try whenever possible to speak out, and to have their facts in line.

But as a person in your 30s and a Navy veteran, you are in a much better position to take on a hostile prof and an unsympathetic group of fellow students than a 19-yr. college girl.

It would be helpful to have a more balanced faculty. Not only for the sake of conservative students, so that they can have role models and people who will give balance to the perspedctives of what is taught. But even more importantly so that the predominantly liberal student body will have their dogma challenged.
