WASHINGTON, November 4, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A new report by the U.S. government's National Center for Health Statistics indicates that sex outside marriage is a major contributing factor to the 1.3 million abortions for 1999. Of the 6.28 million U.S. pregnancies in 1999 there were about 3.96 million live births, 1.31 million induced abortions, and 1 million fetal losses (miscarriages and stillbirths), says the report.
Comparing married and unmarried women on abortion, the report indicates that the abortion rate for unmarried women is over four times higher than that of married women. Looking at pregnancies among married women, three out of four ended in a live birth in 1999, and 7 percent ended in abortion. However, among unmarried women about half the pregnancies ended in a live birth while about 40 percent ended in abortion. In 1990, pregnancies among unmarried women were more likely to end in abortion than in a live birth.
On a positive note the report indicates that from 1990 to 1999 there was a 22-percent drop in the abortion rate (27.4 to 21.4). Teen pregnancy rates have reached historic lows dropping 25 percent from 1990 to 1999. The birth rate dropped 19 percent and the abortion rate was down 39 percent in this age group. More recent data indicate the teen birth rate has continued to drop through 2002 - down 28 percent.

Is this oblique evidence that PPhood is succeeding in 'curing' the 'disease' of pregnancy?

The story relates the obvious but don't forget that some women have abortions, and promote them among their friends, for political purposes. They are the Dr. Joseph Mengele of their generation ... delighting in the death of the innocent.
My wife's friend, a devout evangelical Christian, conceived a child that was horribly deformed, a condition detected in the womb. The doctor recommended an abortion. Her sister-in-law, Mengele incarnate, demanded an abortion -- as if the Ya-Ya Sisterhood needed it to keep abortion legal. Miss Mengele was so obnoxious about aborting the child that the family broke apart.
The child was born, named, and lived only 30 minutes. He has a birth certificate and will forever be a loved member of that family. He was never just a blob of protoplasm.

Nah. This can't be right. 90% are for the "health" of the mother. Economic health, emotional health, status health, gotta-look-good-in-my-jeans health...
