"Order by post time" rocks. "Order by relevance" sucks.

Does anyone actually prefer the "order by relevance" default on the FR search feature?

It is VERY annoying when doing searches. I can't think of a single time that I found the default "relevance" function to be preferable to the "time" option.

Would it be terribly difficult to:

(1) Change it globally in the FR software, or, (2) Allow the "time" option in personal preferences?

100% amen. Probably the reason a lot of duplicate posts [one of mine included]. The thing most relevant is the date.

I totally agree. I never use order by relevance.

What is the relevance metric even supposed to BE? Number of comments? Number of links to thread from other threads? Size of the head article? Highest diversity of freepers replying?

For something like the Terri threads, the default search is about as helpful as 2-week-old bread.

I think the default font should be Old English.

I think it will also help in the duplicate posts. I'm sure many people search for a title, but because it comes up "by relevance" first, instead of "by time" then when it doesn't appear on the list, someone goes ahead and posts it, gets slammed for posting, and then says "... but I DID search before I posted." They just didn't search twice, once 'by time'

I completely agree.

I didn't figure out until a few days ago why I would search for articles before posting, BUT NOT FIND THEM.

It used to sort by post date by default. Changing the default really messed me up.

Agreed. Most of my searching is looking to see if an article has already been posted. If it is a news item from today or the day before, of course I want to see the latest matches not something from last month.

I have never found something by relevance so I don't have a clue.I have failed to change to by post time more times than I can say.

We can select other user preferences. Why not make the search default a user preference?

It worked with CBS and it can work here. Boycott Free Republic until the search default is changed! Who's with me?

Don't expect me to reply to any of your replies. I'm busy boycotting!

I agree, When searching for "Texas" on redistricting it always shows some petroleum tank blast from April.
By time is always the most relevant to my searches.
Its easy enough to click "order by post time"..but im happy to know others have little use for the Relevance option too.

Already posted here. Please do a search before posting a new article. Sorting by date helps.

I confess to preferring a reeeally sharp cheddar. and (miraculously returning to the thread) I prefer the "by post time" option.
