Today is the 24th anniversary of the day that the US Dipolamts in Tehran taken as hostages for 444 days.

The Hard-line Iranian students and militants had demanded the return of the late Shah of Iran, to his homeland to stand trial, who was in the US for intensive medical cares he needed at the time.

A few months later, A group of Special Forces were sent to rescue the hostages but the mission failed.

Finally, The hostages released right after the President Reagan took office in 1980.

Since that time, some hard line militants and students gather in front of the former US Embassy, every year, in Tehran to chant against the USA and its interests.

This short note is written to commemorate the memory of those hostages and the days that American society was concerned about the fate of their countrymen.

Also, by coincidence
1980 Ronald Reagan (R) beats President Jimmy Carter (Dim) by a landslide!!!

We met them at the airport in Rome with a case of cold beer. These two guys are normally unflappable, but after that experience, they were clearly shaken.

I remember when all of this happened. I also remember you going to retrieve them from FCO. About 4 years ago, over at the K's house in Millersville, B recounted most of the story for us. It took him about 45 mins to tell it. Quite a story. The thing that struck me was that B had said he cabled home with the news that the situation was now critical and the savages will be coming over the wall any minute. The response received from Ft Meade was to wait and report. We know what B and your Man did next....Funny thing about Iran now, they would probaly be the least hostile to Americans. Its the Iranian government that makes relations difficult; the population in Iran is very young, and you cant keep the internet and satelite TV away, no matter how much the govt wants to censor. I believe Iran will be an ally or something resembling one within 5 years..

I also remember the celebration at the US Embassy compound in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the night John L came home. He was living in Jeddah, attached to the US Embassy and was TDY in Tehran when it fell. His wife and two kids lived on the compound for the duration. The night John L came back after 444 days, they closed the compound and partied. Every single tree had a yellow ribbon around it, I know, I helped tie them on. And I agree with the above post; WW IV started that day when the Embassy fell.

Iran: Thousands Rally On Anniversary Of Hostage Taking At U.S. Embassy

Radio Free Europe
English Edition

Tehran, 4 November 2003 (RFE/RL) -- Thousands of Iranians rallied today outside the former U.S. Embassy in Tehran to mark the date when students stormed the compound 24 years ago.

Demonstrators, including many schoolchildren, waved banners and chanted "Death to America" and "Death to Israel."

Iranian students occupied the U.S. Embassy on 4 November 1979, in the wake of Iran's Islamic revolution, after the United States offered to take in the deposed Shah. The students held the embassy staff hostage there for 444 days.

One speaker at today's rally was Sohail Karimi, one of two Iranian journalists freed yesterday after being held by U.S. troops in Iraq. Karimi repeated accusations, denied by the U.S. military, that the journalists were tortured after their arrest.

Iran is still on the short list. It was an act of war and remains unresolved.

I read one of the former hostages book about his ordeal. I can't recall his name, perhaps someone else will. I think it was Terry something. Anyway, it was a fascinating and horrific tale of the capture and time they spent as prisoners.

Never forget!

Yep. Same terrorist groups then as now, same fears.

After all, everyone has fears, even terrorists.

Their fear. The TEXAS COWBOY, Ronald Reagan.

Today's terrorist's fear,, The TEXAS COWBOY, George Bush.

Well, that cowboy Reagan was from a couple towns over, in California land. This cowboy is from Texas.

I think Bush should give his acceptance speech in a cowboy outfit or better yet, a flight suit just to annoy the Rats all the more.
