What can you do? It's an entire country with millions of people. Fixing it is going to tick off the relatively few nutjobs. Finding and killing as many as possible is the only thing that helps, but I dunno what can prevent these things from happening altogether.It will be a big help when the Iraqi police and new military are trained. They may be hoping for too much from that though. I think one thing they've got to do is change their mindset. They seem to have approaced this at the outset like it was an annoyance that would go away in a few months. They've got to look at it as a longer term battle. Start requiring ID cards for everyone, perhaps putting remote hidden cameras in various places etc. Start searching house to house in Tikrit. In other words, stop simply being reactive.

The IRA has reduced the home made mortar to a science So has FARC in Latin America. But then, I guess all these guys "trained" together at some point, anyway.
Thank you for that detailed explanation. I had a vague idea of what it was, but the specifics eluded me - until now!
