Al Qaeda again threatens New York, Washington and Los Angeles - Daily Terror Threat

A new message was posted in the last few hours by the Jeddah-based al-Qaeda-linked Al-Islah (Reform) society calling on Muslims to flee New York, Washington and Los Angeles in advance of major al Qaeda attacks in those cities. This is revealed by DEBKAfile.

The message accuses the United States of predetermining its end (doom) by its policies. ?The Jews rule the Pentagon by remote control and (are the cause) of Muslims being killed in every corner of the world. The United States should therefore expect more blows.?

The message is signed on behalf of the al Bayan (The Threat) movement by ?your warrior brother, Abul Hassan al Khadrami?.

Our Muslim expert identifies the name of the signatory as belonging to a Yemeni from Hadhrameuth, the Bin Ladens? place of origin where Osama enjoys substantial tribal support.

DEBKAfile?s counter-terror sources stress that warnings appearing on these forums are taken both very seriously and with caution by the intelligence services keeping track of the terrorist network?s electronic traffic.

Last November, Jeddah-based fundamentalist forums addressed a message to an Al Qaeda member, saying whoever understands ? understands; whoever knows, knows, but we are marching towards an operation that will take us to Paradise. Three days later, the Mombasa Paradise hotel was blown up killing 12 Kenyans and 3 Israelis and a failed shoulder-launched Strela anti-air missile missed an Israeli airliner at Mombasa airport.

Ministry Sends Teams to Monitor Contagious Diseases in Holy Sites

RIYADH, 19 January 2004 — The Ministry of Health will dispatch three health teams to the holy areas by the end of the week. The teams will monitor pilgrims with infectious diseases, see to the environment and sanitation and organize effective health education programs among the pilgrims.

The Director of Infectious Diseases at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Amin Mishkas, told Arab News that these groups would assist the pilgrims in looking after their health needs. He pointed out that food poisoning, influenza and meningitis are the most common health problems faced by pilgrims. They usually result from pilgrims ignoring basic health rules.

The Ministry of Health is maintaining a round-the clock vigil on incoming pilgrims to identify suspected SARS cases and others infected with other contagious diseases.

The Health Education Department in the ministry will distribute pamphlets in 17 languages to inform the pilgrims of basic health rules. The department has also organized mobile teams to visit the camps of various nationalities to publicize health messages through audio visual aids.

Dr. Mishkas advised pilgrims not to stay in overcrowded areas for a long time. This should reduce the spread of respiratory diseases. Pilgrims have also been requested to wash their hands with soap before meals and after leaving the toilet. The director further said that they be careful to eat only clean food.

Haj visas have been issued to pilgrims on production of vaccination certificates. Pilgrims must also furnish a vaccination certificate against meningitis to be allowed to enter the pilgrimage areas. Vaccination against meningitis are valid for three years and pilgrims have been advised to take the injection at least 10 days before their departure.

But basically if I am reading the Arabic correctly, open season was just announced on the ruling family, no holds barred.

But who wrote the article? Even if it claims to be a "fatwa," the Muslim community would only consider it to be as legitimate as its author. Islam doesn't have anyone equivalent to the Pope - anyone could in principle issue s "fatwa" though only those from respected clerics would be taken seriously.

There have also been lots of other pronouncements over the years against the House of Saud ... so far without much effect. Their days are probably numbered however - they've run the kingdom in a harsh and unjust manner, taking most of the country's wealth for themselves and not allowing much to filter down to the commoners or to build the country's infrastructure outside of oil. There are a lot of their own citizens who would be happy to see them go. Sooner or later things will boil over and the royals will be gone - and hopefully someone more moderate than al-Qaeda(!) will be there in their place.

But none of this is anything new.
