And was Mary Magdalene his wife?
Apparently, a lot of people will be upset if the answer to both these questions is yes.
As explained in tonight's "Jesus, Mary and Da Vinci" - a new ABC News prime-time special inspired by the best-selling novel, "The DaVinci Code" - proof that Jesus of Nazareth was a married man enjoying conjugal relations with his wife would upset the apple cart, so to speak, of all of Christianity since Jesus' divinity has been based for so long, at least in part, on the notion that he was celibate.

Nevermind. I saw your #44. Thanks.

I am actually well-studied in both Latin and Greek, with a degree in the latter. The best translation of "praeis" is "selfless," not "learned." That makes plenty of sense. I think most ordinary people can pick up that meaning from the English translation, but true, not everyone will--not pseudo-intellectual dabblers, for instance.
Like many Christians, I care deeply about the content of the scriptures and don't take well to flippancy and deconstructionism.

If Jesus had actually married, we would not be finding out about it only now, 2,000 years later.
After all, we have an unbroken succession of Church leadership since Jesus was still roaming the earth.

You really sound like a bitter religious bigot
Ooops. It's personal attack time. Apparently the
absence of Christian prison camps in the US has
refuted your intentional destruction and persecution
of those of the Christian faith in this country for
the nonsense it is. And the best you can manage
is to go personal. Not very Christian of you. LOL

Yeah...that's why you brought up the Elders of Zion while I was making a point about the institutional bias in the liberal media/Hollywood. Then you had to bring up the Spanish Inquisition as if to support your point about how mean Christians can be. If you can't see that Christianity is a safe target for bigotry from the left, than that's your problem. It's quite obvious to many of us...and your condescending tones were just as much as a personal attack. You seem to be the whiner.

I posted a link upstream that is easier to see. As they say, art is in the eye of the beholder, but I showed it to my husband and he sees it the same way. I didn't come up with this myself, if you google about, you'll see that others see it the same way.

"Not very Christian of you."
Could be because I'm actually not "very Christian." You left off my last quote, which I thought would be more offensive to you...unless it is true, which explains a lot of your anger.

Ok wait a minute. This whole thing was inspired by a Novel? I have read novels that I wished were true...but news reports based on something published as fiction?

Except for the fact that the whining is coming in the form of intentional destruction and persecution
of those of the Christian faith in this country , you might have a point.

The novel is fiction. The stuff the novel is about is part fiction and part fact.
For example, there really are non-Christian symbols in medieval cathedrals, and the Templars really were strange dudes, and the Masons, too.
We are friends with a 33 degree Mason who has offered to sponsor my husband and sons but I can't get them interested. My husband says that even if he did learn all the secrets he wouldn't tell me.
To: cwboelter
So, you are trying to offend me?
Heh. With friends like you, Jesus
doesn't need enemies, does he?

Let's see if I can put this in simple terms so that even you can understand:
The Boy Scouts has been denied any federal money and land simply because they choose whom to accociate with.
These same Scouts have now been denied land in San Diego because a liberal judge has ruled them a "religious" organization. This despite the fact that the BS works to improve the lives of young people, especially inner-city kids.
We have the ACLU...a big NAMBLA supporter, who wants God taken off of everything....our money, our Pledge, our buildings...everything. We can't display Nativity scenes because they connote some type of religious expression. Same with the 10 Commandments. A Mission in Tennessee, that fed and housed the homeless for years was denied the tons of food sponsored by the government during CLinton's term simply because they prayed before their meals.
A teacher is suspended because she wears a cross...another is fired becasue she let another child lead a prayer in remebrance of a fallen class-mate.
We have Bush-appointed Jurists who are being denied because of their deeply held religious beliefs. The list goes on.
No...no persecution here. I hate to break it to ya': Persecution in 21st Century America isn't going to look like consentration camps...or the Spanish Inquistions. Of course, with attitudes like yours, those days may soon return. Open your eyes.

You say that like getting
religion out of government
were a bad thing. Gotta run.
It's been real.

Whoops! I see the hand and knife/spoon/etc now.
Yep--John looks pretty gay. Just the way Leonardo liked 'em!
To: Bohemund
What's worse, that the painting shows that Da Vinci thought Jesus was married, or that Da Vinci thought Jesus was homosexual?

Gee, I'm thinking of doing a movie based on Mohammed's proclivity for young girls, and unusual erotic positions. Think I will encounter any heat?

The problem with Jesus being a married man, is that it makes the Bible a lie. But isn't the destruction of Christians and Christianity, what these rewrites of history all about?
Blatently obvious.

Right on target.
After a few months on FR, the Christian haters are easy to spot. Always the same people, the same attack, the same condescending tone.
