Good Morning Mayor. You know how to start a day off right, a Psalm verse and a hot steaming cup of coffee. :) Thanks!

This was a rough weekend for Mrs. ladtx and me. We knew our middle son Jeff was to be in transit from Mosul to Baghdad then on to Kuwait for an R&R trip home to arrive here tomorrow. After hearing about the Chinook shoot down yesterday morning we sat through the whole day waiting on word from him. Then, finally late yesterday afternoon we got word from his girl friend that he had called her and he was safe at the Baghdad airport. I think we aged another 10 years yesterday.
We were relieved but couldn't be happy because we knew there are other families somewhere whose fathers, sons, husbands, wives, or daughters won't be coming home and our hearts go out to them. We prayed for them.
Since it is Military Monday I'll keep up my rememberance of my comrades from another war.
In memory of my fellow Vietnam helicopter pilots who were killed in that war the following were lost on NOV 3. God bless them all.
1967 1LT James E. Pavlicek Jr. -- B/4 AVN 4 INF, Age 25, Hereford, Texas
1967 WO1 David E. Thomas -- B/4 AVN 4 INF, Age 25, Sedalia, Missouri
1969 WO1 Kenneth R. Leach -- B/25 AVN 25 INF, Age 28, Hemet, California
In memory of these 3 pilots who died in 2 different incidents 2 years apart, they all flew the same type of aircraft, the UH-1C. They were all gun-pilots. Gun-pilots saved my bacon more than once. Salute guys.
The Bell Helicopter UH-1C Gunship.
SCOUTS OUT!

I use to read Our Faily Bread from the book, then I discovered it on line so now I read it and
post the quotes with coffee. It's the best way to start off the day!

I think yesterday was a rough day for all of us. Thankfully it was a beautiful day here and I was able to be outside staying busy raking leaves. Still wasn't able to keep my mind off the Chinook shoot down and quietly prayed for the families throughout the day.
Thought about your son Jeff and now to hear that he's alright is an answered prayer.
Know you're looking forward to seeing him soon, please give him a hug from all of us and a big Thank You for his service to our country!

Below are names of some of our FReepers' loved ones who are serving our country. If you have someone you would like to add, please address a post to Billie; Mama_Bear; Dansangel; Dutchess; Aquamarine and we will add their name to this list. As we pray for them, we pray also for all our nation's leaders, and military personnel, and their families and friends. May God hold them close to His heart.
~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~
We ask Lord, that You guide the leaders of our great country in their hour of decision. The burden that has been placed on their shoulders is overwhelming. We ask that with Your infinite wisdom You guide them gently to the right decisions.
Please give us the strength, Lord, to get through each difficult and devastating day that faces each of us and our country. Protect and guide our Military that are now being called to duty, strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils which beset them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Thanks Aqua. I think this site and this thread in particular is one thing that helps us get through the days, knowing we all pray for each other in times of need.
IT'S THE SOLDIER
It's the soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the
PRESS.
It's the soldier, not the poet,
Who has given us freedom of
SPEECH.
It's the soldier, not the campus
ORGANIZER,
Who has given us the freedom to
DEMONSTRATE
It's the soldier, not the lawyer,
Who has given us the right to a
FAIR TRIAL.
It's the soldier who salutes the flag,
Serves under the flag
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who gives the protester the right to burn the flag.
-Father D. E. O'Brien
Continued Prayers for our Military. Prayers for those who lost their lives and their loved ones. ladtx, I am so happy to hear your son is OK. I can't even begin to imagine what you went through over the weekend. God Bless All.
*** ALERT FOR ALL MILITARY and VETERANS ***
There is a television ad running with Bob Dole, if you've not seen it, advertising this year's the Golden Corral Restaurants chain third annual honoring of all military personnel, past and present.
(Included also are Reservists and National Guard members.)
This year, it will be on Monday, November 10th - the Marine Corps Birthday..:))
Have been to the one in Aiken, and it was First Class all the way, the staff well instructed to be extra nice to us.
Despite the very long line to get in (5 - 9, and go early!), it moved very rapidly, and it was a full buffet, with even your being able to choose the steak and have it grilled before you, and enjoy the soup and salad and dessert bars as well.
The best thing was the joy felt from the honorees, to be thus recognized.
If your spouse is not military, there is of course a charge.
(They give Senior Discounts, if that person is one.)
Here is the URL to the Golden Corral's website:
http://www.goldencorral.com/PromoSpec.htm
(Scroll down to see the wide variety of things on the buffets.)
The greatest thing was the tremendous respect shown everyone who participated by every employee from the manager down.....
Wish everyone understood where our freedoms come from as well as Father D. E. O'Brien.
Is your cousin alright, DH? I just found out last week that I have young cousin over in Iraq now. He was in Germany but after he came home from his duty there was sent over to Iraq.
Thanks for posting this info on the Golden Corral restaurant. There's one up the road from me in NC, it's nice to know that they appreciate our Military and show it!
Good morning Cal. Saw on the Week End thread when I went to link it here that you all had some fun last night. I'm convinced that FReepers have superior wit!
My first thought upon hearing of the downed helicopter was of Jeff, and I prayed for his safety and your peace of mind. Thank you for letting us know the good news so soon.
Your honoring of the fallen deeply touches us, and we join you in remembrance of them.
