Celebrations Erupt Across Arab World after US Chopper Crash
Associated Press ^ | November 2, 2003 | nwrep

Cairo, Egypt-AP -- There are celebrations reported across the Arab world, after the news of more American casualties in Iraq.

Resistance to the occupation is applauded by some who see it as proof that Iraqis weren't totally humiliated by the relative ease of the U-S-led coalition's toppling of Saddam Hussein.

Many Arabs had warned an invasion of Iraq could drag the region into chaos. In Damascus today, foreign ministers from countries bordering Iraq again called on the U-S to restore order in that country.

I think we can look at tactics first. Dialup Llama is asking good questions: why are we flying so low and without seeming to take evasive action? Why don't we have areas around airports secured, etc... We need to get the Iraqis out on the streets protecting their own people while we take care of the more difficult stuff -- but not with targets on our backs.

W... What are you waiting for? You didn't want to get drawn in to a house-to-house, street-to-street fight? Well, ya did. Now you're gonna have to find them and kill them.

Just be sure to take a gun to this knife fight.

This is a very thinly-sourced "news" article.

I agree. It is a hot wire copy, and was picked up by many outlets. We should wait for AP to get more meat into it.

There needs to be a lot more fear of the USA in the world and a lot less empathizing by us trying to win hearts that only want us dead or worse.

...starting with the village near where our chopper was shot down today.

The French get over half their electricity off nuclear power. No reason save public edjamakation and the greens that we couldn't.

Not going to happen though.

"...We need to get the Iraqis out on the streets protecting their own people while we take care of the more difficult stuff...[sic]"

They are out of the streets. Cheering!

The reason these terrorists can hit us so easy is because they blend right in with the locals. They locals are sympathizers and support them.

I gave a solution already. A solution that will work.

I'm gonna leave that up to our president. It's always an option.

If we, theoretically, dropped a bomb on those people celebrating our soldiers' deaths, would it hurt our campaign to win the hearts and minds of our enemies?

No it couldnt hurt, these people will hate us no matter what we do. Im going to come right out and say it; until the WOT is changed to be WOI (War on Islam), Iraq will become the Vietnam that Katie, Hillary, Nancy, the Nine Dwarves and Babs covet so bad. Im willing to bet my house that these weapons are being hidden and blessed by the mullahs in the mosques. Im also willing to bet the there is more than a little encouragement from the Islamic leadership. The war is against Islam, not terror-muslims are the only ones left that are really "into" terrorism anymore..

They can't hate us more, so it wouldn't hurt. And if we theoretically killed enough of them, it would help our boys stay alive.

This is not true...we do take evasive action and are equipped, and do fly high...they were coming into Baghdad's airport.

A Chinook is a sitting duck...like all choppers...it only takes a *golden* bullet to bring one down, needless to say a rocket.

Who said the Arabs were totally humiliated by the relative ease of the U-S-led coalition's toppling of Saddam Hussein?

In fact, they were only 99.999999996% humilated.

To bad we're not actually collecting those items as war trophies.

Syria and Iran are feeding this because they know they are next.

In the current climate in the ME, there are three main players (with respect to violent Islamist radicalism)

Saudi Arabia is the font of radical Ismaist philosophy, spread by their network of evil Whahabbi clerics.

Iran is a key supplier of finances and logistical support.

Syria is a pawn of Saudi Arabia and Iran, but Syria also now possesses some of Iraq's WMD, and is being used as a conduit for islamist "soldiers' entry into the Iraqi battle zones.

IMO, we deliver an ultimatum to Syria and then enforce the ultimatum by invasion asap. No need yet to invade either Iran (which would be far more difficult than Iraq) or Saudi Arabia. The imminent overthrow of the Iranian Theocratic government by its own polulace can be aided by covert operations. SA will get the message and will crack down on the fundamentalists.

This is just precious! The idiots who are allowing their own countrymen to travel into Iraq and stir up the mess .. these are the same people who are calling for the USA to restore order ..?? The Arabs are sounding more and more like democrats every day.

Why? We'd just elect another dim president in a few years that would give the technology away to another "developing" group of malcontents in the name of "diversity" or some other self hating nonsense. The cycle starts again.

I understand your sentiments, but what you envision is unlikely. Even were the USA or other industrilaized nations to deploy alternate energy sources such as CF, there will always be demand for oil from industries that require it as a raw material and from developing countries.

IMO it would be far better if the Arab countries would undergo a reformation to bring them in alignment with the rest of civilization.
