The car rammed through a police checkpoint

Obviously it was not a very good checkpoint.

Isn't this the second time something like this has happened? Didn't a woman crash through a tarmac gate at the air port and drive her car towards Air Force One?

What ever happened with that?

Paranoid thought: would the woman trying to get her kids "martyred" by Bush's security forces, to make him look bad? (I mean, maybe she was that crazy). I'm not trying to imply she's from the RoP, just that she might be really, really nuts.

Horn Lake woman crashes into Civic Center
Date: Saturday, November 01 @ 17:39:53
Topic News

Authorities guard the car that breached security during President George W. Bush's visit to the DeSoto Civic Center on Saturday. The DeSoto Times has learned the driver has been identified as Betina Mixon, 29, of Horn Lake.
SOUTHAVEN - A Horn Lake woman was taken into custody Saturday morning after she drove her car into the DeSoto County Civic Center where President George Bush was delivering a speech.

Law enforcement officers on the scene said the woman, identified as 29-yearo-old Betina Mixon, apparently drove through a police checkpoint on a perimeter road to the south of the arena, jumped a curb and then drove at the building and crashed into a loading dock. The area was on an upper level and about 40 yards from where the president's limousine and motorcade were assembled.

The president’s life was never in danger,” said J. Michael Pearson, resident agent in charge of the Secret Service’s Jackson bureau. “The
president’s safety was not in danger.”

Pearson said the investigation was ongoing and he could not give much information about the incident. He said Mixon breached the police checkpoint but did not breach the president’s
security.

There were conflicting reports as to whether there were two or three children in the car at the time. The president was in his limo but had not left the building when the breach occurred.

Three young food service workers at the Civic Center said they witnessed the incident from the loading dock where the woman’s car crashed.

“We had come out to watch the president leave and he was in his limousine and was pulling out when she drove up,” said Joshua Wharton, 18, of Olive Branch.

Wharton said two of the president’s motorcade vehicles blocked the entrance to the loading area where his car was located and the limousine backed up until the area was secure. The president was then driven to the Memphis
International Airport, where Air Force One was waiting to take him to his next campaign
stop in Paducah, Ky.

Chad Payton, 18, of Horn Lake, said the woman was screaming as she drove up to the building in a late model Toyota Camry.

“You could hear her yelling the whole time,” Payton said.

Mixon was immediately taken into custody and is
being held in the DeSoto County jail. Pearson said Secret Service agents would question her as the investigation continues.
