(New Orleans, LA) -- Republican Bobby Jindal is pulling ahead of Democratic challenger Kathleen Blanco in the latest poll released Thursday. Blanco's popularity sunk to an overall low of 38 percent, according to the report from Marketing Research Insight. Jindal's support has remained at a steady 54 percent but Blanco has consistently lost support over the past two weeks. Sounds like Breaux won't have a Dem governor to name his successor when he retires....

Unless he retires right quick.

Of course, the Pubbies have to beat the spread.

current La gov is GOP

Some would disagree.

I'm not sure I understand your post re: Edwards. Did you know he's in the penn? He can't run. Mike Foster is Louisiana's governer.

Why are they assuming a runoff will be required?

I wouldn't put it past Foster to appoint Chris John himself, if Breaux retires early. That do-nothing tub of lard is no Republican. (He's not much of a governor either.)

The run-off is a definite in a couple of weeks. They already had the general election; about five or six candidates ran (don't bet me on that). Jindal and Blanco emerged with the largest percentage of the vote, and will enter into a runoff campaign in a few weeks. I'm not too familiar with how other states conduct races, but I think Louisiana is the only one where all the candidates run against each other, and then the top two have a face-off, unless someone in the general election gets more than 50% of the vote.

OK.

I thought the "current round" WAS the general election (1st Tuesday in Nov and all that.)
