Will Southern Cal. fires defeat Barbara Boxer? (She's against Bush's brush-clearing bill).

AS Hugh Hewitt notes on his website, Boxer's against Bush's "Healthy Forest" initiative, which would clear dead trees and other kindling from forest lands. I think a valid campaign ad should show the flames and devastation AND REMIND VOTERS THAT BARBARA BOXER IS IN THE RADICAL ENVIROS' CORNER. She represents THEM, not the people. AND HER POLICIES HAVE CAUSE UNTOLD LOSS OF PROPERTY - AND TRAGIC LOSS OF LIFE.

Barbara Boxer can and should be defeated next November.

Should emergency relief funds for a fire disaster area be automatically be linked to the provision that a state mandate the annual thinning of forests?

..or something along the lines of what the Fed did with the repeat offenders along the Missippi River. Don't have the specifics but it was pretty much, "we paid you this time. Should you decide to move back in / rebuild in a known flood plain - you do it at your own financial risk. We - the Fed - will give you no more money.

Small victory for the US taxpayer!!!!

CNN (I know) - can't get Fox at work - they had an interview with "Joe Property Owner" yesterday or this morning.....

Reporter, "You knew this was a high risk area for fires, yet you bought a house?"

Not so Proud new Owner of an ash heap, "Well, I knew they had fires here but after looling at last years fire path we decided that this area would be pretty much safe because it had been recently burned."

actual interview words - sorry did not record / write down, this is just a summary.

Just plain...Doh!!!

Mother Nature - 1.

Clueless morons - 0.

HEADS SHOULD ROLL! The morons in DC and Sacramento are as much to blame for the wildfires as the arsonists themselves. The politicians and bureaucrats have failed to combat the bark bettle infestation in California which are killing thousands of acres of trees and leaving kindling behind. The arsonists should be hung and it should be televised!

Unfortunately Boxer can't be defeated unless there is some kind of miracle. As stupid as she is, many Californians are just as stupid. Plus there are no strong Republicans in California to challenge her. Get used to 6 more years of the dimwit.

The GOP is constantly villianized for their common-sense forstry as a bunch of anti-environmentalists.

Remember the Yellow Stone fires?

The standard policy for awhile was to put out any fire (started by Mother Nature or man) immediately.

I forget the name of the pine tree. Cones fall to forest floor. They don't open - to spread new seeds - unless burned in a fire.

Nature knows how to do it.

Enviro-whacko's don't have a clue, yet they are allowed to do serious damage to our environment.

Long since past time to stamp out all enviro-whackos.

No. Tony Strickland/Rosario Marin/Toni Casey/Dennis Miller will.

Time to re-ignite the Freep wars over the senate primary, which is coming up fast and without much warning on us.

I agree one hundred percent. The cause of these fires may be solely the responsibility of arsonists, but the effects have been magnified by the policies being attacked. And it is the policies that Boxer has supported which will be the targets of the advertisements.

However, be forewarned that such advertisements will be compared to the James Byrd lynching commercials sponsored by the NAACP during the 2000 presidential campaign. The Democrats and the liberal media will suddenly find a sense of outrage over the linkage between a tragedy and policies which would have had no deterent effect on the cause of the event.

There has bever been a policy recommended by any environmental group that did not damage the best interests of the United States. This profound negativism must end.

Other groups don't want the firefighters using the water in the rivers to put out the fires. One of those save the fishie groups.

I'm sure they will be happy when the rains start and those same rivers are choked to death by the ash runoff.

I am a logical common sense person. I read what you post and it couldn't be much further off the truth ER.

First, a lot of this "IS" the leftist environmentalists and the controlling Democrat machine here in CA that are at fault for the extent of this damage.

We have beetles that have killed trees left standing in the forest that have taken off like they were gas.

Bush did want common sense clearing of old and damaged growth. Also wanted to have new things planted where needed.

I think it is a legitimate issue in elections for the next ten years and that to try and play nice now will bite us in the ass.

Boxer is prime to be plucked if you get a decent non-McClintock candidate in there.
The legislature of the CA State also needs to be shook up and I have the feeling Arnold will use the press and come to the people to let them know the circus the Democrats had going here.

Boxer, the Democrats in the Legislature and lesser Democrats are all obstructionists and anti-business idiots who need to be given the boot by people.

What you suggest just barely falls shy of a cooperative cover-up to basically help Democrats maintain power by not raising valid powerful issues that would cripple them.

This goes beyond politics as well. This is a right thing to do when you point out who has been involved in preventing proper forrest maintenance.

If you had a car and Democrats said never add air, new brakes, oil and for heaven sake, never clean the windows...you'd be in an accident and seek blood!
This is not so different and the Democrats have been that negligent here with the influence and power given to them by voters. Voters have a right to know and become angry.

I just don't share that view of yours and think your view would be the Democrat's dream move from conservatives.

"we paid you this time. Should you decide to move back in / rebuild in a known flood plain - you do it at your own financial risk. We - the Fed - will give you no more money"

...I don't know much about the fires in California but do know a little about the mighty Mississippi and the people who continue to build and rebuild their homes in the same area where they have to know that the Mississippi will flood again and again and again.
...They also know with the proper amount of whining through the media, especially tv interviews with the unfortunate "victims", The federal gov will come through for them with low rate loans, guaranteed and subsidized flood insurance, emergency funds and grants. While publicly warning people that they won't be bailed out again.
...Three things are certain:
...The Mississippi will flood despite all the dams and levees the corps of engineers can build.(Or because of them in some cases)
...People will rebuild in the same places in spite of loss of property and life.
...The government WILL pay (Read Taxpayers) again and again and again.

Thanks for all your responses opposing my position that using campaign ads with the fires as imagery would be a bad idea.

I'm curious if any of you could provide me some facts illustrating what portion of these fire areas have been substantially effected by clearing restrictions that are under Federal jurisdiction.

It's been my assumption that these fire areas are not predominately national forests.

If a majority of the burned region is directly under Federal control and or mandates for clearing, and there has been clear and decisive obstruction by the government, then I will agree more fully with the "culpability" argument.

I appreciate one of you linking a fact-sheet from the 2002 fires, but this isn't the 2002 fire.

I still believe that seeking to play the fire videos on campaign ads will turn off more voters than it will turn on. Most voters in CA aren't conservative firebrands, and trying to pin the fires on Boxer won't wash with the Dems and/or listless independents whose votes we need to defeat her.

My understanding is enviornmentalist prevented the beetle ravaged trees from removal in Lake Arrowhead for starters.

They have to be held accountable.

apparently Boxer has now switched and is supporting the tree-thinning bill that's before the Senate??

Guess something put her feet to the fire!?!

Well, she still deserves to be defeated, for not pushing for forest thinnning before now.

By the way, did Arnold meet with Boxer in D.C.? Didn't see any footage. Saw him with DiFi, but didn't see any meeting with Boxer.
