I doubt it. Sounds like the family only tried at the city/county level and hit brick walls. My bet is on corruption in the police and courts, and really good 'connections'

Michael Schiavo said that Terri had been seeing a primary doctor & gyn for problems in becoming pregnant.
He said that no blood tests had been given to her. Therefore, he said he sued them for malpractice since her potassium imbalance should have been detected.
He was awarded 1.2 Million, I believe.
