I appreciate the contact info. It doesn't look like my grandmother's been evacuated.
To: ladyesk; It's me
Thank God, I just heard from my brother. They were evacuated from their home in Mt. Woodson in Ramona, but their home was spared. They are allowed back in now and very grateful. The loss of life and property is staggering.

Thanks to you and other FReepers for keeping those of us far away updated.

KRLA in Los Angeles is doing an hour of fire reporting now. Listen on the net

My sister lives there. I'm in Los Angeles, thankfully not near any fires.

Haven't heard much new. The CHP just re-opened Highway 67 from Lakeside to the back road to Scripps Ranch, which is a pretty good sign, I'd say.
As a normal routine, these things travel almost exclusively through heavy brushland. When they take out structures it's usually those that back onto brush-filled canyon. Once the main front blows through, you're usually okay, though there's a huge amount of clean-up to do before it's out. It appears the heaviest activity from that fire is south of Alpine, and the Descanso area where the back side of the fire is creeping into town.
The good news at the moment is that winds are down and the available air resources are able to work. That's a winner!

I have relatives who live outside of Palm Springs. Is any of this headed in that direction?

Thanks so much for your response...
The mother of my young friend who lives in Torrance just called, and all is well.
I found out where the other one lives...Burbank...so she should be OK too, right.
The mom was thankful her daughter was fine....and also excited because her daughter has started attending a wonderful church in LA....
..one I was attending right before 9/11 and I moved back to Florida.
Have any of you heard of Pacific Crossroads Church (PCA)???
Just wondering
When we were in LA, we lived in the El Segundo/Manhattan Beach area.

Also, just heard they think the 3 major fires will join together as one huge fire....
...What could that portend?

Thanks for the update on Lakeside.

The growing Alpine fire is troubling, as is the Simi Valley fire up in L.A. It seems to be moving quickly, and 1000's of homes are potentially in danger.
To: RightField
This one has to be arson!!!
They've got 2-3 tankers that seem to be comming from Pendleton, a helo that just came from the ESE & ground FD just arrived from the S via I-5.
Maybe they got it handled cuz the smoke plume is turning from black to gray.
To: lainie
Thanks, I appreciate it. I was pretty frantic this morning when I couldn't reach anyone there.
To: Guenevere
Burbank is okay for now, too.

I'm in Downey, out of danger.

I have heard of several Crossroads churches but have not attended one. If they are in a good church, the church family will help them, if it is needed.
