Haven't heard much new. The CHP just re-opened Highway 67 from Lakeside to the back road to Scripps Ranch, which is a pretty good sign, I'd say.

As a normal routine, these things travel almost exclusively through heavy brushland. When they take out structures it's usually those that back onto brush-filled canyon. Once the main front blows through, you're usually okay, though there's a huge amount of clean-up to do before it's out. It appears the heaviest activity from that fire is south of Alpine, and the Descanso area where the back side of the fire is creeping into town.

The good news at the moment is that winds are down and the available air resources are able to work. That's a winner!

Thanks for the update on Lakeside.

The growing Alpine fire is troubling, as is the Simi Valley fire up in L.A. It seems to be moving quickly, and 1000's of homes are potentially in danger.

Have you heard anything else about Descanso? I haven't heard a thing. I have friends there who have been evacuated and I haven't heard from them since yesterday.
