Good grief, the last thing those people need in SoCal is a presidential visit. We just spoke to our former coworkers down there, one had his house burned to the ground and the other barely escaped destruction, both in subdivisions that nobody thought would ever burn. Do people think they want to take a break for a Presidential photo op?
When will people understand that our President doesn't act based on polls or potential votes, but rather according to the situation and what's right?
Gray Davis may be an incompetent boob, but he's the sitting governor. It's his responsibility to be there right now, not the President's. The feds can send money and assistance, but that's it.

Eastlake is eastern Chula Vista. Just west of Otay Mountain and east of the area around Southwestern College.

Our prayers are with you, your neighbors and the firefighters. Hang tough, but if the wind starts up again heed the advice of the authorities and bail. What he said!!!! Prayers going out.

There was a seperate SD thread but the mods, in their wisdom, pulled it as a dup.

I know what you mean. One time my hubby and I drove into a mt. resort area in the Sierra for dinner. While we were eating a wild fire started on the mountain. Ash was raining down on us as we came out of the restaurant. The CHP escorted those of us up there back down, fire was raging on all sides of us on the highway, and it was becoming doubtful that we could get down. They closed the road right as we made it away from the fire, or else we would have had to go back up into the higher elevations. Frightening beyond words what fire can do.

Hildy's friends who are being evacuated, live across from Cuyamca College off Jamacha, in El Cajon/Rancho San Diego area.
Hildy says there's smoke everywhere -- all around her and particuarly her friends' area.
Very serious, I am waiting to hear from Hildy again!

Davis gave away the store to his special interests leaving our firefighters with nothing! It reminds me of the sketch on Saturday Night Live during the anthrax scare. They were holding a press conference and the reporteer asked what was being done to prevent future attacks. The official went on to explain that they have installed a 10 million dollar, state of the art security system to protect the Senate and House. The reporter then asked what was being done about the post office and the official stated, we've given them a dust buster and a roll of paper towels.
Kinda like what's going on here!
