I've lived in San DIego since 1972 and have never seen it like this. The only way to describe the conditions here is "Nuclear Winter". I, like most people are staying home today.

There is no way the President should even consider going into SoCal right now. First of all -- where would he land? Major airports are all clouded in smoke and flights cancelled.

What is with some folks?

Well, last week they all hated Jeb; I guess it's the president's turn this week.

Gotcha!

This is really bad when fire crews/satellite trucks get run out of an area. Fire has jumped 118 going towards homes once again in the Simi Valley. Fires are now blowing 25-35 miles an hour. Flames on the side of the 118 toward the homes have really started up again!

We're doing ok. I'm not feeling too good, but we'll survive. Boy, I've NEVER seen the sky the color it is this morning. Praying that the winds don't kick up today and that this thing is taken care of.

Bush has promised support. What I'm curious about is why Arizona and Nevada wasn't asked to help us out yesterday. Davis talked (I think it was)this morning about asking AZ and NV for help...what would be the reason to wait so long?

This is getting closer to home for me... It's very, very dry and there is several year's worth of growth there.

The wind is now blowing in the Simi Valley canyons at 25-35 mph but they are expecting by 2p.m. for the winds to shift to on-flow from the ocean and help get the fires under control in the LA area.

I wouldn't even begin to guess, not knowing the complete situation.

But I do know that you are in danger, so be very careful.

I see a guy on TV this minute telling people to stay home and for company's to send people home.

Am I to take it from these reports that the situation is actually worse than it was yesterday??

Are you ready to leave if you have to? I cannot imagine what you're going through!

Hurricanes are bad, but this is frightening!

That's San Diego's mayor; the Cedar fire down there is the single largest fire in this entire mess. Logistically, it makes sense for the locals to stay home.

I heard that one branch of the mountain fires is now headed in the direction of Wrightwood.

I was just in Wrightwood in early June. I'd never even heard of it before -- I attempted a complete hike of the Pacific Crest Trail, but actually had to quit -- in Wrightwood as a matter of fact -- with injury. I remember thinking how dry and wooded the surrounding hills were, and I seem to recall that there was a fire near there quite recently. There was a very nice woman who let my wife and me stay there when we quit our hike. I hope she's OK, though I can't for the life of me remember her name. All I remember is she lived up in the hills above the downtown.

KTLA had to move their truck along with the fire vehicles. Helicopters are now dropping water on where the fire has spread. Two helicopters now dropping. It is incredible to watch the choppers. Looks like they have two choppers assigned to this fire to get it under control as houses are really threatened.

How far are you from where the fire has crossed? You can hardly see the homes in the Simi Valley from the smoke!

San Diego Fire Dept concerned that the 3 major fires in San Diego County may join and be 1 giant fire.

150+ homes lost in Scripps Ranch, at least 10 homes lost in Tierrasanta, 11 confirmed dead from fire in San Diego.

I think there are some things that are better. The wind isn't as bad and we know where the hot spots are. But the air quality is horrible. I'm feeling sick this morning. Down in Chula Vista they lit some backfires to offset the existing fires and that seems to be working. The freeways are all open except for part of 52 so that's a good thing. Unless winds shift dramatically, I think we're gonna be ok.
