I've been watching all the local news channels. On KUSI the reporter in Scripps Ranch made a point of saying he would not step on anyone's burned home saying that this was someone's home and it wouldn't be right. Then on KFMB (channel 8) the reporter there just stepped right onto someone's burned up home to show everyone the teacups that were still recognizable. If that were my home I would be furious. I wonder if that reporter even realizes that she is doing something totally disrespectful.

"Can Arnold work with the lame duck Davis and get the USAF out?"USAF C130s have been out for a couple of hours. I watched those on MSNBC too.

We have adjusters set up in motorhomes handing out checks to our insureds to get them started towards recovery. Our agent just left to go pick up and deliver a 10K check to one of our insureds who suffered a total loss.

If what we're hearing now about Davis not calling for the military planes when they were offered is true, this is the greatest scandal of his entire sorry career and he should step down TODAY. What on earth would be the reason NOT to call them in if it might save lives and homes?
To: Stars N Stripes
thanks, stars n stripes. I'm not familiar with the area so its hard to pick out where the fires are exactly in relation to the structures. But I'll take your word for it that it isn't as immediate as the media indicates.

"... Been on the Rim of the World drive many times and if the fire goes over the cliff will it burn down the mountainside into the towns below?" Don't mean to sound like a wiseacre here, but fire burns up.
It's already been burning up for the last couple of days. The mountainside below 'Rim Of The World' is already burnt to the dirt. What we're worried about is the large mountain communities I named earlier on top of the mountain that are heavily-wooded with trees that will go up like matchsticks if the fire gets across the road.

Just got back from a recon trip to Yucaipa area. Road block on 38 at Bryant by CHP. Only residents allowed further up the mountain. Drove south on 38 into Mentone/Redlands area. passed Amethyst St. only thing I saw was a pumper loading up with water at a hydrant. No evidence of fire of any kind in that area. The smoke is bad at the lower elevations. [I am at 3000ft, so above the smoke] I could of course see the fire on the mts above SB to the west just a matter of miles away. Folks...the pics on TV and even the great pics posted here cannot convey the magnitude of this fire here in SB. I have lived in this area for 30 years and have seen my share of brush fires, even had to evac myself once due to a fire, but they were
nothing, repeat nothing compared to this. Most fires in this area knocked down in a day maybe two, for this to burn for this long with no near end in sight and the danger to Lake Arrowhead, with resorts, huge expensive homes, schools, whole mountain communities is hard to convey in words. The fire is monsterous. The dead trees are the major problem. Imagine a mountain range covered in pine, fir trees and then imagine 60-70 percent of them dead, but still standing. This goes on for not just acres, but miles and miles. Huge brown patches on the mountain sides. I know the other areas of SoCal are in bad shape, this is just a little info from my neck of the woods..pardon the pun.

Thanks so much for the update! It's a big relief, especially since we can't seem to reach anyone. We're in Scottsdale, Arizona now -- left California in 1996 after 35 years.
Thanks again, and stay safe!

Heads up Calif Washington state is sending you air tankers, and fire engines, when I get the number I will post it.
Local Seattle news I was busy and did not get the number, but I think they said 5 fire engines, and did not hear the number of air tankers

The dead trees are the major problem. Imagine a mountain range covered in pine, fir trees and then imagine 60-70 percent of them dead, but still standing. The beetles have been working over the drougt-weakened trees, killing them. It's just been a disaster waiting to happen.

God love your heart.

I was just able to get in touch with some friends from Scripps Ranch.
They stayed over night at a hotel and they are trying to get back in now to see if their house is there. I know they just put on a new roof but their street was one that was devasted so I don't know if a new roof would be enough to save their house.

I am with you. I was shocked when KFI started reporting that Arnold had been out and about today and then saw the picture of Maria in San Bernardino. I have had KFI on all day and first I heard it was when I reported the fact.
Then we find out that Doofus and his people never requested the AF in Colorado to provide help with their planes even though Cong Hunter gave them the info yesterday and the planes could have been used today.
What is wrong with the media? This to me makes me wonder about the entire media and feeding us what they want us to hear. I heard Davis over and over again today!

I heard them taking about Crestline, however the reporters probably lumped all the small communities under the same name since their all pretty ignorant of the area. I have friends in Crestline and relatives in Running Springs. But they all evacuated yesterday and don't no anymore than the rest of us flatlanders. :(

Earlier, Paul Moyer said that Maria likes her new role and has "decided she's not going back to work for awhile"
I thought NBC gave her the heave-ho?

I wonder if that reporter even realizes that she is doing something totally disrespectful. I'm sure she does. But does she care?

"What local leaders were they"I don't remember. I only know it was on MSNBC, and the cll letters were an NBC affiliate in CA. I was listening more than watching.
Could you please follow FR etiquette and jog the memory of the poster to whom you are replying with the relevant quote? It doesn't have to be italics, though those are preferred. I've had very little sleep the past two weeks. I'm very tired and it's hard to figure out WHAT you are referring to without a little help.
