The White House has issued President Bush's annual greeting to Muslims around the world who will observe the holy month of Ramadan.
In his message, President Bush says Islam is a peaceful religion that has helped shape the character of the United States, and has made great contributions to the world.
Mr. Bush said Americans cherish the freedom to worship and, he said, "we remain committed to welcoming individuals of all religions."
During Ramadan, President Bush said Muslims fast, pray, contemplate and renew their commitment to lead lives of honesty, integrity and compassion.

You all have a nice loving Christian day. I wish I could stay longer but time to something real. I'm sure you'll all get along nicely without me.You're right about the second part but ...stop teasing us ... you've threatened before.

Nope. Just illustrating the cultural differences between an islamist state and a free one.
If I could 'see into their hearts' I'd cheerfully advocate deporting the ones who mean us harm.
But since no-one short of God (and perhaps Satan) can, we just have to stay alert to the possibility that someone we thought we knew as a loyal American isn't.

Do you think the President should condemn Catholicism because 99.9% of the IRA members are Catholic? Do you?
That is irrational, nonsensical, a non-sequitur and baffling.
Catholics are not blowing up skyscrapers in the US.
Blowing up schoolbuses in Israel.
Blowing up airliners full of people over Scotland.
Massacreing non muslims in East Timor...
Most rational people can make the connection.
So long as the sandmaggots limit their criminal savage primitive behavior at home among themsleves, I couldn't care less.

A coalition of prominent national Muslims organizations
Imams and activists
are calling for a boycott of President George W. Bush 2003 Ramadan Iftaar Dinner
at The White House. Wow. President Bush is hosting an Iftaar dinner??
The Iftaar dinner, of course, is held after sunset to break the fast.
I presume President Bush
who is not a hypocrite
intends to respect the solemnity of the occasion
by fasting the whole day preceding the dinner.
(And truly to respect the faith he is honouring
he will go on fasting for the following days
until the next new moon.)

All of which has no bearing whatsoever on the religious rights of ALL U.S. CITIZENS and the President's duty to recognize them equally.
159 -jackson-
The President has no duty to 'recognize' the various religions of the world in any fashion. -- In fact, the 1st amendment specifically instructs our governments to refrain from respecting the establishments [the precepts/dogmas] of religions.
As Saber has argued, in a time of quasi-religious war, the president would be wise to confine himself to his constitutional duties, and leave religious remarks to the clergy.

"The President has no duty to 'recognize' the various religions of the world in any fashion."
We're talking about the religious faith of American citizens.

No, you were talking of the presidents 'duty'.
It is not his job to pep talk religious groups. --- Get real jack.

We are.. that's what this thread is about.
-- That and your silly effort to paint objections to the presidents religious agit-prop as somehow being 'unpatriotic'.

Well, Publius, if you lived in Northern Ireland, the Catholics of the IRA were indeed killing innocent people. That is my point.
Most Catholics don't do this kind of terorism. Most Muslims don't, either.
On the other hand, there are Muslims who secretly cheer when this stuff happens. I don't like that at all.
But then I don't like all the donations American Catholics were giving to the IRA, either.
I don't care what people think, as long as they don't do anything. I am not naive, and I don't trust a Muslim too much anymore, since I can't tell which are sympathizers and which are bystanders. This does not mean I want to attack them all, however.
There is no doubt that the Muslim community needs tobe more outspoken against terrorism. However, I know they receive threats from the nutcases whenever they do speak out, so I appreciate the President encouraging them in his speeches.
I don't think attacking them is going to make any progress, but would rather drive the moderates into the radical camp. You might disagree, but that is what I think.
To: CWOJackson
Yes, and all Catholics are Nazi sympathizing supporters of the IRA and thinking blowing up innocent Protestant woman and children is okay.Do you relaize how lame and intellectually bankrupt you appear dragging catholicism into this thread?

The fact the millions have died at the hands of so-called Christians, in the name of Jesus and God is hardly different then what Islam did itself. When monumentally ignorant and irrelevant statements like this one are made, it pretty much defines the author.
I do hope you have fun talking to yourself soon.
It's inevitable.

Ramadan Begins
00:40 Oct 26, '03 / 30 Tishrei 5764
(IsraelNN.com) The Islamic month of Ramadan begins today. The month is generally accompanied by an increase in Arab attacks against Israeli targets and this year, security forces are less than optimistic that the weeks will pass quietly.

I am convinced at this point that your only reason for being on these forums is to troll around a bit. You noticed that? Reminds me of a famous line...
"Why is it those who know the least say it the loudest?"
He also reminds me of a another lonely old (deleted) who trolls the smoking threads to be as obnoxious as possible.
I guess a pathetic life is better than no life at all.

Think! No... you think.
Islam is targetted not because of what they are but because of what they do. Today. Not 500 years ago.

Not only spelling mistakes but he doubled back on himself so many times he had to be dizzy. He started off poorly and then got worse before becoming nonsensical. Then went to some rant about having parts of your anatomy removed. All in all, I guess he was amusing.
