Bush Issues Ramadan Statement
VOA News ^ | October 25, 2003

Posted on 10/25/2003 5:21:58 AM PDT by sarcasm

The White House has issued President Bush's annual greeting to Muslims around the world who will observe the holy month of Ramadan.

In his message, President Bush says Islam is a peaceful religion that has helped shape the character of the United States, and has made great contributions to the world.

Mr. Bush said Americans cherish the freedom to worship and, he said, "we remain committed to welcoming individuals of all religions."

During Ramadan, President Bush said Muslims fast, pray, contemplate and renew their commitment to lead lives of honesty, integrity and compassion.

Do you think the President should condemn Catholicism because 99.9% of the IRA members are Catholic?

What percentage of the world's Catholics supports the IRA?

What percentage of the world's Moslems supports the terrorists?

How many of the gathered leaders of Moslem nations condemned Mahathir's recent comments?

Iran amputates thief's fingers

Sharia law at its' most merciful. Usually the penalty is chopping off the whole hand.

Quite a penalty in a land where people eat from a common tray, and use the right hand to eat, and the other to wipe...

"The Constitution gives me every right to define a bogus religion..."

Only for yourself, not for the nation, not for the President, not for the Armed Forces and not for your fellow citizens.

When the word 'religion' was put into the Constitution, what were the Framers referring to, then? It can't be completely nebulous and undefined, as you allude; it had to have some meaning to the framers of the Constitution, right? Otherwise, there would have been only one amendment: Feel free to do what the hell you want to do.

Funny you should mention the DU. Those are people that also believe that they should be the arbitrator of all things righteous and morale as well. Sounds as if you speak with some authority and experience...but it means little to me.

People like you mean very little to me.

Well, the paradox is that failed experiments aren't failures. The goal of an honest experiment is to learn more facts, more truth, not to achieve some desired outcome.

(Hint of Zen There). Well, the past-accumulated Knowledge Base America has gained from hard experience on Nation Building would appear to be quite substantial. This MEGA Billion Dollar Iraqi Adventure is a heck of a lot to spend to acquire “more facts, more truth". Just my opinion.

Anyway, I See the Light Grasshopper. It is about becoming one with eternal knowledge. Ah So.

Yes, I've seen a lot of these sources being quoted...some people WANT to believe anything.

*sigh*

And it's pretty obvious you are believing what you want to believe, refusing to take much input.

I suggest you read Post #323 for some good input.

I perceive three things about you:

1. You are letting your enthusiasm about supporting the troops blind yourself to the possible dangers of some of those troops. Sure, not all Muslim troops plan to frag their buddies. But, based on the strength of their beliefs, it is hard to tell which ones are! Therefore, we have a problem...

2. You misundertand the basic tenets of both Christianity and Islam.

3. You prefer to ignore fourteen centuries of history.

However, I do think you probably really are a fine fellow who supports the troops and loves America, but you need a break. Why don't you head off to the Club for a beer or two and let your temper settle? ... and then pick up one of the above mentioned books and do some worthwhile studying to expand your knowledge?

"1. You are letting your enthusiasm about supporting the troops blind yourself to the possible dangers of some of those troops."

WRONG. Those troops are nothing more then representative of many American's who happen to be Muslim and are decent citizens. I'm objecting to the utterly ignorant labeling of all Muslims as extremists, and that somehow Muslim American's are less deserving of having their religion addressed by the President.

"2. You misundertand the basic tenets of both Christianity and Islam."

WRONG. See Number one.

"3. You prefer to ignore fourteen centuries of history."

WRONG. I prefer to live in today.

No, I think you're missing the big difference here.

He misses the point of ALL posts. Either that or he doesn't have the good sense God gave 'im.

While I would have to admit you have a certain level of expertise in missing the point that's not exactly a good thing.

Hey now, I think you're glossing over a pretty important qualifier to my support for the "experiment..."

I also think the nation-building in Iraq is a worthwhile experiment, even though I think it's likely to fail as long as Islam remains deeply rooted there. In the short and mid-terms, it gives us a critical presence in the Persian Gulf, from where operations against either Syria or Iran might be launched, and in the long-term, even a failure of a non-authoritarian democracy in Iraq will illuminate the real nature of this war.

Even if the Iraq experiment fails, the WoT will be a lot easier to fight when we have a presence in Iraq, and forestalling a Lebanon the size of California isn't to be sniffed at either, given the Baathist power vacuum.

Kinda Zen Machiavelli, if you ask me.

And would your proposal be to immulate the Saudis and expell American's because they're Muslim and no Christian? How very "Islamic".

That has already been proposed on this thread.

13,000 are serving.

How many Islamists have infiltrated?

Those 13,000 deserve the same level of respect as any other service person

Those 13,000 deserve constant surveilance!
