Bush-Cheney '04 Blog Update:

President Bush's Agenda Meaning Progress on Health Care and Economy but Democrat Leaders Choosing Obstruction

October 24, 2003

------------------------------------------------------------------------

In a piece by the New York Post's John Podhoretz today, the difference between the President's agenda and Democrat leaders' obstruction was made clear. As a bill modeled after the President's plan to give seniors' prescription drug coverage appears close to passing, Democrat leaders in Washington have to choose between doing what's right for America's seniors or more political obstruction. But as Podhoretz points out, this isn't the only issue where Democrats are making the wrong choice:

House and Senate negotiators are on the verge of agreeing to a $400 billion bill creating a prescription-drug benefit - a bill the president is eager to sign. . .

Democrats are signaling that they are moving toward obstruction, which creates yet another problem. Their excuse will be that the bill's only fiscally responsible element - an effort to restrain the spiraling growth of Medicare by introducing some competition - is unfair to seniors.

On Partial-birth abortion again liberals choose obstruction:

A vast majority of the American public supports the ban. Now liberal interest groups will seek to have the measure overturned. If that should happen during 2004, Bush and the GOP will have potent grounds to attack both those liberal groups and the courts that use judicial power improperly.

On creating jobs and growing the economy:

New jobless claims have remained below 400,000 for three straight weeks now, a strong indicator that substantial economic growth is now upon us. Some economists - and not Republican shills - are saying that the growth in the third quarter of 2003 might reach as high as 7 percent.

Democrats will continue to act as though the economy is in terrible shape, but facts are stubborn things. They failed with the same tactic in 1983 and '84 as the economy emerged from a truly parlous recession during which unemployment briefly rose above 10 percent.

I, for one, am glad that they're planning to filibuster his prescription drug program.

Nothing but a huge socialist giveaway, that.

President Bush is now on the offensive countering the democRAT attacks and obstructionism. The President needs our help in having the ability to counter these attacks since the liberal, democRAT media is certainly not on our side!

I notice that this paragraph of Podherz's column was somehow omitted:

Don't get me wrong. I think the prescription-drug benefit is a terrible idea. At this moment it appears the only way America will be saved from it is if Democrats oppose its creation because it isn't terrible enough.

I'm sure it was a mistake.

House and Senate negotiators are on the verge of agreeing to a $400 billion bill creating a prescription-drug benefit - a bill the president is eager to sign. . .

A good demonstration of how sad things have become here when the so-called conservative can't wait to sign this horror for no more than craven political considerations, again demonstrating that under GWB, the era of big government is NOT over.

Thanks, Mom, for posting.

Figures -- haven't seen any of those NARAL ads here in Oklahoma -- they might figure why waste their money here! Just don't understand how anyone could support that procedure!

The democrats are continuing to follow the mad dogs: Carville and McAwful. Therefore, the democrats continue to overplay their hand. These people are sinking their own boat!

The Reagan mini-series is just a sympton of what's wrong with the democrats. "In their search for monsters, they have become monsters themselves".

It is like following the lead RAT over the cliff -- these RATs just keep moving forward and falling off the cliff -- hope they don't wake up until after the 2004 election!

Yep .. it kinda looks that way. And .. I agree .. I hope they don't catch on until it's too late.

However, I read a story about a Wellstone son who is starting a "progressive" school, trying to teach people what the progressive movement is all about. And .. the guy had a definite dislike for McAwful (which might translate to a dislike for the Clintons). If this is true .. this could be the beginning of the rebuilding of the party. How honest it will be is another story.
