Ron White's Office Bugged
October 23, 2003 Action News has now confirmed that the Mayor's office wasn't the only place bugged by federal investigators. We have learned that there was at least one phone tap.
By the time FBI agents raided lawyer Ron White's office last week, they apparently already knew a lot about him. That's because his phone was tapped.
Action News has learned that FBI agents have been playing back some of those recordings to people involved in the conversations.
Those people, many of whom have business with the city, have been hiring private attorneys and some are cooperating with the investigation.
White is a longtime friend and fundraiser for Mayor Street. He has handled hundreds of millions of dollars worth of bond deals for the city and his law firm represents dozens of companies doing business with the city.
This investigation has been going on for about two years now, but was kicked into high gear by the discovery of the bug in Mayor Street's office. The Mayor has been identified as a subject of the investigation, but so far, the feds have not called anyone a target, a legal distinction that would mean an indictment is likely.

Can you imagine what they had to have to get a judge to approve a tap breaching attorney client priveledge? This must be a really big scandal.

That is what I'm thinking
A couple area Congressmen (Brady, Fatah & Hoffel) wrote a letter to Ashcroft asking him to put off the investigation until after the upcoming election
I'm taking a guess his answer was no

Upon release of this information, Mayor Streets poll numbers shot up to levels never before enjoyed by a Philly Mayor.
Well, not yet, but would you be surprised?

Brady (D)
Fatah (D)
Hoffel (D)

No way! They figured out how to blame Street's corruption on Bush? That's rich. What was it, not enough federal $$ to the poor of Phila, racism, etc., ad nauseum? LOL!

In some prior reports, it was speculated that there were people close to the investigation who were cooperating. I thought perhaps someone had seen too much and just gotten fed up with the corruption. Not necessarily so. This report says that squealers are squealing because they're being squeezed.
Add me to your ping list on this story, please. Thanks.

Yep, this one is a biggy. And this aspect proves it.I'm an outsider, but have been following this thanks to FR. Very, very interesting to watch this unfold. It must be nasty, since I've yet to hear such characters as Je$$e Jack$on call a press conference and rise to the mayor's defense with the usual cries of "It's racism, it's just racism." Maybe I've been asleep, but I don't remember hearing much about this from the alphabet press either. Hmmmmmmmm......

Terry Mcauliffe and James Carville were in town today campaigning for Street and blaming this all on Bush and comparing it to Ken Starr and Clinton's impeachement Once, just friggin once, I wish a prominent pubbie would challenge these guys. The challenge: If the allegations are true, they resign their posts. Too many times these scumbags get to spew their nonsense and because the natinal media is liberal, they never follow up with past quotes to show they were wrong and/or lied.
To: Mo1
Based on the fact that the principles played the race card almost immediately, you can bet that there's something big brewing. White and Chuckles Fatah have been out front on this from the beginning making it look like the investigation is racially motivated. I'd bet my eye-teeth that Chuckles is involved up to his eyeballs.
