El Al flight makes emergency landing in Montreal due to security warning
By Zohar Blumenkrantz, Haaretz Correspondent and Haaretz Service
El Al flight 105 from Israel to Toronto was
diverted to an airport in Montreal on Thursday,
due to a security warning in Toronto. The control
tower at Toronto's Pearson International Airport
instructed the plane to land in Montreal,
apparently due to security concerns at the airport
in Toronto.
An hour and a half after
landing at Mirabel airport
near Montreal, the plane,
which was carrying some 180
passengers, took off for John
C. Munroe International
Airport, near Toronto, where
it was refueled, so that it
could continue to Los
Angeles, the flight's final destination.
El Al transported the 44 passengers who were to
disembark in Toronto from the alternate airport
outside to the city, and transferred 45
passengers who were to board the flight to Los
Angeles.
The Toronto Star quoted Pearson International
Airport spokesperson Ken Mitchell as saying
that a threat was made to the aircraft and to
the Toronto airport. According to the paper,
Mitchell couldn't say if the threat came from
onboard the aircraft or elsewhere.
"We do know that the threat was made while the
aircraft was in flight and we know that the
threat was made to this aircraft and to the
airport," he said. "We don't know the nature of
the threat or how that threat was transmitted,"
the Toronto Star quoted Mitchell as saying.

EVERY flight out of the Middle East should be considered a "Security Alert".

El Al motto - don't f--- with us. Remember the guy who got shot at their counter at LAX? If it were American or United, the guy would have gotten a free flight to the studio to discuss his 'feelings' with Dr. Phil and an anger management class to deal with how the infidel airlines upset him. Go El Al.

Not only that.
In addition to undercover counter-terrorist personal on the plane (usually 2 to 3), ELAL pilots are all veterans of the Israeli Airforce.
What's more, ELAL planes have systems which allow it to deploy certain means to dodge missiles or rockets coming at it.

And you can't get into the crew cabin from the passenger cabin.
Consider tho the minute number of daily flights compared to ours here in the USA........

It sounds like the threat was on the ground in that specific airport in Toronto.

During the mid 1980s - when I briefly had a part-time job as ramp agent at Logan's International Terminal, I would see one of El Al's planes come in from time to time. These guys didn't fool around even back then. People with machine guns would guard the plane the whole time it was parked on the tarmac. I like the way El Al takes care of business.
