I don't know that I like this "vegan" bit, even though it is a shorter word. I mean, there are little girls called Megan. They might be subjected to ridicule because of the closeness of the two words.

A vegetarian is simply someone who avoids meat. They may still eat eggs, cheese, drink milk, and many of them will eat fish.

A vegan is a different animal (pun intended). They avoid any animal products whatsoever, and try to get their protien from soy and other beans.

And then (according to the Simpsons) there are the fifth-degree vegans, who won't eat anything that casts a shadow. ;^)

umm... you're a little bit confused about the term Vegan. First of all, a vegetarian is someone who does not eat meat. A vegan is someone who, in addition to not eating meat, does not eat dairy products or eggs either. Also, Vegan does not rhyme with Megan. It is pronounced vee-gan. Just wanted to alert you to your error. But, Vegan or Vegetarian, regardless, they both suck. I mean, why would a person not eat meat. I will pursue and harass them with all my energy.

You say veegan, I say vegan.

There are many gradations of vegetarians. A vegetarian won't eat meat. A vegan will tell ME that I should not eat meat.

Three varieties that I know of, are the fruitarian who will only eat fruits, the vegetarian, who will not eat meat, including eggs and milk, and the ovo-lacto vegetarian who will not eat meat, but will eat milk and eggs.

There are many other self-imposed dietary restrictions as well. (Such as not eating red meat, or even eating Kosher.)

Well, I guess that if someone's name were Meagan, it could rhyme with vegan, but the name Megan just doesn't make that sound, unless you're one of those people who would pronounce egg "Ayg" or catch "Caych"... but that would just be a case of a socio-economic background based dialect which is a misuse of the English language. Hope that answers your question :-)

In the coast guard, we pulled into station portsmouth, NH, frequently. Our Phillipino cook always said the station dog's name was stew, but it was really skippy or something else.

One time, about 3 days after leaving there, we got a radio call from the station asking if we had seen their dog, it had been missing for a few days. The Captain, finishing off his second helping of stew, looked right at the cook and and blew chow right in the wardroom.

Ive not been much of a stew fan since.
