"Last time I went to the ER I spent FIVE hours there before being seen."
There is a hierarchy of criteria as to who is seen first based on symptoms. If memory serves me "unconscious with a head injury" goes immediatly to the head of the line no matter how long someone else has been waiting.
It's quite a laundry list - abdominal pain is not in the top 10 - I think it's way down there like 123 or something.

Easy, friend...I am not advocating killing, though I myself am taking meds that might kill me. There's a risk in everything we do, and the lethal dose of painkiller is very close to the dose sufficient to make some cancers stop hurting. :-( Not a call I'd want to have to make, but it's still one that needs to be made by those who know what they're doing.

You can look in her eyes that she is alert. HEY , she laughs when she watches cartoons!! Thats not exactly non communicative!!! Sorry, but I didn't see any of this in the video.
I only saw her sort of smile and her eyes follow a balloon for a few seconds.
I have also heard experts state that people who are in a permanent vegetable state will do these things reflexively at times. It doesn't mean they are alert.

Second post:
If anyone would like to make a donation to the Schiavo's, here is their address:
The Terri Schindler-Schiavo foundation
4615 Gulf Blvd # 104-103
St. Petersburg Beach, FL 33707
I can only imagine, in addition to the emotional toll this has taken, but also the financial one. We can not forget them. Their attorney bills must be astronomical.

You need to stop listening to the outer-fringe witch doctors A Nobel prize winning physician is a outer fringe witch doctor to you?
Your ignorance and arrogance about this case is astonishing.
To: Bobibutu
I got a mere gash in my foot once and saw the doctor in 10 minutes. It depends on when, and whether the waiting room is flooded with illegals waiting for their kids' colds to be treated.

Thank you lonevoice. Could you tell if Rockefeller was mentioned in the blurb that pops up on the link?

I hope Felos feels about as small as a fly right now. I doubt it. Did you read his biography? He probably had subliminal communications from Terri (i.e. hallucinations) telling him that she wants to die. That's what he got from some other terminal patient that he had killed.
That freak will go on believing whatever he wants to believe.

She reacts to her Mom as would a child. That you don't or won't recognise this says nothing about Terri Schiavo but it says a lot about you Jorge.

I've watched the videos and she's Severely brain damaged but not vegetative!! My feeling is it has not been proven either way. PVS is not the same as a coma. People in persistent vegative states do have periods of sleep and wakefulness. "Spontaneous movements may occur and the eyes may open in response to external stimuli, but the patient does not speak or obey commands. Patients in a vegetative state may appear somewhat normal. They may occasionally grimace, cry, or laugh. "
Now I don't know if Terri is in a PVS or not, and the videos, while heartwrenching, don't have anything that seem to disprove a PVS diagnosis. THIS DOES NOT MEAN I THINK SHE IS IN A PVS! Only that the videos don't seem to disprove it.

So. Do you think we should starve Ronald Reagan? I'm sure he "wouldn't want to be living the way he is." I bet Nancy would say this wouldn't be his top choice either. After all, he has no hope of making a recovery and can't get a spoon to his mouth.

Oooh, sounds yummy!
Whew, I'm tired... 37#?? Oh, yeah! The weight loss! Atkins. Actually, a bit more strict than Atkins. I've discovered quite a few sensitivities and allergies thanks to low-carbing. Just started working out after years of weakness and am stalled in weight loss because of muscle gain. But, d@mn, it sure feels good to be active again!

I had to go to the ER once with a broken collar bone (from a fall in a martial arts class - doh!). It didn't hurt that much if I didn't move or breathe...waited ~30 minutes. Then they shot me up with Demerol (sp?). Had to wait another hour, but didn't care one bit!
To: diamond6
Let me be the first to suggest that Terri drop her husband's name, if that's possible. While she's resting, fed, and rehydrated, maybe her new guardian could move forward on that post haste.

Nourishment isn't artificial. Air isn't artificial either. But being kept alive in an iron lung is.
The fact is being feed through a feeding tube hooked up to a machine is artificial.
By definition these things are artificial. Anyone who has a living will ruling out their being sustained on a machine includes all these means.
