I got a mere gash in my foot once and saw the doctor in 10 minutes. It depends on when, and whether the waiting room is flooded with illegals waiting for their kids' colds to be treated.

I had to go to the ER once with a broken collar bone (from a fall in a martial arts class - doh!). It didn't hurt that much if I didn't move or breathe...waited ~30 minutes. Then they shot me up with Demerol (sp?). Had to wait another hour, but didn't care one bit!

You are correct - that's why I always call around to the ERs first to see how crazy it is and baring an ambulance hauling in an unconscious head injury - how long it may be - I have always found the intake triage nurses to be most helpful.
We are blessed with 5 hospitals in our area (Oakland CA) so one can be a bit picky if there is time.

"It depends on when, and whether the waiting room is flooded with illegals waiting for their kids' colds to be treated" You got that right. The longest I ever waited was with an asthma attack. When I was taken in with a lacerated Achilles tendon I was seen immediately.
