Jeb Bush Detractors can leave their apologies here.

Posted on 10/21/2003 2:47:00 PM PDT by Pukin Dog

If the moderators will allow this thread, I would like to hear from those with courage enough to admit their mistakes in attacking Governor Jeb Bush, "suggesting that blood would be on his hands", calling him a murderer and worse with no evidence to back up their assaults.

While today is a great day, I would like to know how many people are willing to stand up and admit their wrongs?

Some may think it unnecessary, but I think a pound of flesh is in order, in a single place were we can all see and read about it. Please remove if this is out of bounds, but in all the congradulatory threads, I dont see too many folks willing to suck it up.

No, I did not "misunderstand".

I fully realize there were "legal" constraints, and still are, regardless of the emergency legislation.
I quite honestly didn't think he would step in even if given the "authorization" by the florida congress.
I believed he would consider it a political hot potato, and not touch it.

My apology was constructed with this in mind, although I never actually posted any such opinion.
Like I said in my original post, I didn't think Jeb had the political guts to take such an action.

And, like I said in my original post, I was wrong.

Judging by his actions, I would say you are correct.

Whether he did it because his hand was forced (politics) or because he was compelled by providence, he deserves bigtime kudos.

Happy?

"They said they'd vote against George W. Bush to get back at Jeb for not storming the hospice with state troopers."

I read some post along those lines and I just have to wonder if some Freepers understand that Jeb is the governor of a state and not some despot of a third world country.

"I just hope to God it's not too late. How's that?"

God is never too late. All things happen on his time.

The other day, I was informed that I would be going to hell because I stated the obvious: Jeb Bush did not have the authority to intervene in this matter.

SCENE: INT. of HELL. Poster AMBROSE is sitting in a pool of molten lava, next to ADOLF HITLER.

AMBROSE: Oh, uh, hi there. I guess we're going to be neighbors.
HITLER: Ja, it looks that way.
AMBROSE: So, ummm....what are you here for?
HITLER: Well, I started a war that killed over 50 million people. And I slaughtered 6 million Jews. You?
AMBROSE: Ahh, well, there was this internet forum, right? And I posted an opinion about the law that someone else disagreed with. So, you know, here I am. (laughs nervously)
HITLER: (pauses) Well, I bet you feel pretty stupid, ja?
AMBROSE: Yeah.

It is nice that after a mountain of protest and pleading was directed at Gov. Bush he finally found the 'legal' means to do something in calling an emergency session of the Fl. legislature. It is also nice that the legislature responded so promptly by complying with his request before the end of the day. It is terrific that they have implemented a temporary one time solution to the immediate problem of feeding and watering Terri too.

It's a wonderful political CYA for them all. This fire in the underground media has been quenched for the time being and they have bought some time to reassess their positions and reassure their lobbyists.

Thank you, Gov.Bush, for taking the bold step of calling a special session on the behalf of the life of a citizen. May you and the legislature be successful in changing the laws that allow the courts to be the last unchallenged word on the life and death of a citizen who cannot speak. May your investigations of Judge Greer's conflicts of interest, M. Schiavo's self serving guardianship and the higher courts refusal to hear appeals go well.

If guns blazing is what is required then yes, go in with guns blazing.

I don't toot my own horn so I refuse to answer your second question. However I do strive to do what is right. An old Marine Corps Major taught me that when I was a young pup and I've never forgotten it. I try to live by his example. That's all I will say.

Sorry, I didn't see your question.

But your question is ridiculous since you and I both know Liberals have NO morals :P

No I wouldn't support them calling out the troops in defense of gay rights. But this is an entirely different subject and you know it.

I won't change my mind so don't waste your breath trying to convert me

Jeb Bush lacked the moral courage to do early what should have been done.

PERIOD

Well, I'll pony up.

I didn't think Jeb had it in him. I'm glad I was wrong. I'll be wrong like that any day of the week!

Where did I mention gay rights?

I was specifically vague because there are a multitude of situations where a liberal governor could do the same thing. And that wouldn't make any of us happy.

So the question remains, are you happy with the precedent you are setting up here, where a governor can completely ignore the law to do something he feels is morally necessary?

I won't change my mind so don't waste your breath trying to convert me

I'm not trying to change your mind, I'm just documenting either your hypocrisy or liberal views toward the law.

Jeb Bush lacked the moral courage to do early what should have been done.

So he lacked "moral courage" to IGNORE the law and take that law into his own hands and forcibly take control of Schiavo?

I am neither a hypocrite sir nor a liberal. You do not know me so do not presume to know my politics.

Jeb Bush showed no Moral courage and all of your name calling will not change that simple fact.

Your complete and total inability to answer my question tells me everything I need to know about your politics.
