Senate panel approves bill to let Bush intervene in Schiavo case an Associated Press / ABC Action News report 10/21/03 related story: Judge hears Terri Schiavo supporters' last hope (10/20/03)
TALLAHASSEE - A state Senate panel approved legislation Tuesday that would allow Gov. Jeb Bush to order a feeding tube be reinserted in a brain-damaged woman in defiance of a court order that allowed her husband to remove the tube.
The bill would give the governor 15 days to order a feeding tube reinserted into Terri Schiavo, one of the nation's longest and most bitter euthanasia cases.
The Senate Rules & Calendar Committee approved the bill on a 10-2 vote. The full Senate planned to consider the legislation Tuesday evening. The House passed a similar bill 68-23 Monday.
Schiavo has been at the center of a court battle between her parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, and her husband, Michael Schiavo. The parents want Terri Schiavo to live, and her husband says she would rather die.
Republican lawmakers say that where judges might be wrong, especially in cases like Schiavo's, such legislation is desperately needed. Opponents say the measure is unconstitutional.
Meanwhile, a federal judge in Tampa is expected to rule as early as Tuesday on a request by a state agency for the disabled that Schiavo be kept alive so it could investigate a claim that she is being abused by having the tube removed.

YES!!! But we still have to wait till tonight for a pass from the Senate? When will Terri get some water and nourishment? Please don't let them drag this out until it is too late. I hope this isn't what some of them are trying to do.

Faxes are also the most effective on a practical level.
Legislative and executive offices really do read them.
Email most of the time goes completely unread.
Congressmen will claim vociferously that they don't have enough staff to deal with it.

It is surprisingly cost effective to send faxes. And effective!! Seriously, as a result of the actions taken by so many in this forum, the wheels of politics have moved from death to life.

I spoke with Rebecca in Senator King's office yesterday. She assured me that Senator King wanted no harm to come to Terri. On the other hand, she had several at-the-ready reasons why they felt(then)that they could not help.
Since early Monday they have been inundated with requests for the Senator's support and help...and something about all those "positive" contacts has made those reasons disappear and cleared the way for the Senator to decide that he COULD help...obviously, Senator King didn't want to take the tremendous amount of heat that would come his way if he blocked action.

My rule when sending press releases holds true in cases like this:
Send email.
Send fax.
Follow up with a phone call to make sure the message came through loud and clear.

Praise be to God, and May Terri be nourished with God's love as we await the final order and reinsertion of her tube and food begun!

"Senator King is the one not allowing the bill to come to a vote in the Senate." I saw posted on one of the Terri threads yesterday evening that he had changed his tune. Might have something to do with all the calls and emails. Keep up the good work!

It was a committee vote. In order for a bill to reach the floor of the Senate, it has to pass a committee or conference. then to the floor. It's just part of the process.

I understand that they are yapping this morning about 'economic development' or some such thing.
Well, if they don't vote on Terri's Bill VERY SOON, there won't be any 'economic development' for Florida, because NOBODY will want to go to the DEATH STATE.

Let's just keep up the prayers that today is a victory for LOFE in America, both for Terri and the babies that will be saved by the ban on PBA. We have to intercede for our country.
