"It has to be attacked head on. " The issue is how? If we try to force conservativism on the general population, they will reject it as too extreme. Imagine, for example, 50 years ago, proposing the idea of gay marriages would have been unheard of. We didn't get this way overnight. And we will not be able to force the middle section of politics to think this way in a few short years. We have to keep working on it.
Using the republican party to advance conservativism is just a start. I have friends who believe everything coming out of ABC, CBS, NBC, et al. Only when I forward them fr articles, and talk to them to they start seeing the truth. Can you imagine, the democrats going the way of the Whig party, and then, subdividing the republican party into a true conservative party? Then, we will have a better opportunity to roll back years and years of oppression by the liberals.

Hey, the DUmpsters are already discussing this! (However, I know we are not supposed to mention the DUmpster, so forget I posted this). :)

Bravo, Jim! Couldn't have been said better.

The issue is how? There's only one way.
Directly.
If an elected president stood in front of a camera and told you that government was way too big, and that he intended to reduce it to it's constitutionally mandated size incrementally over the course of his presidency... how many people who actually pay taxes do you think would balk?

I would hope many, but will the president get airtime, or will the mainstream networks cut away to the latest episode of 'friends'? Then, there would be the dem rebuttal. Of course, that would get all the publicity, and every word would be taken out of context.

Well stated.

It is a constitutional republic, which is SUPPOSED to be restrained by individual rights. You are living in a fairy tale. Haven't you ever read any of the surpreme court dicisions? The constitution is what ever the JUDGES SAY IT IS THIS WEEK. What you think the parchment says or doesn't say is not worth anything you are not a supreme court justice.
How many times does the Supreme court have to rule in direct opposituion to what you think the words in the Constitution mean, before you figure it out.
I would say it might take 45 or 50 million examples before you figure it out. What it says in the civics books and on your parchment is worth nothing. They are just words. What the guys on the bench in the black robes say is all that counts. Got that?? I didn't think so.
You could try Dealing with it... or even opening your eyes. ...
I WILL SAY IT AGAIN. THE CONSTITITUTION SAYS WHAT EVER FIVE JUSTICES SAY IT SAYS!
The only way is to get judges who agree with you. If such judges are on the court it would not matter what the constitution said. They would make the correct ruling. And if the right judges are NOT on the court, it does not make a damn what the parchment says They will rule as they see fit.
IN our nation it only matters who is elected and who is on the court. Parchment is good for wiping your butt and not much else. Ask Ruth Bader Ginsburg how it really works if you need further explanation.

I wouldn't like it, but I'd vote for Satan as our senator over Patty at this point...Exactly how some of us in California felt about Davis! I sure know what you mean. BTW. From what I have seen of Patty, I agree with you, she needs to go!

Just curious, why on earth would you care, much less check on what a group of nitwits who post to a dopey site like that are saying about anything?
If it wasn't for being mentioned here, they would have no notice at all.

I'm no libertarian, but my post to you was a little harsh, and I apologize. I know you are a good freeper. I guess I can't help but be a little - suspicious - of people who trashed a good and honorable conservative like Tom McClintock. But I think I was able to fill in the blanks okay.

They're doing it anyway. At least stand for something while they're doing it. You don't become a target unless you are standing. That's the problem, too many conservative politicians are afraid to take a stand because they believe they will be left with their butts flapping in the wind while the leftist media takes pot shots.
I can't call it courageous, but I understand the position they are in.
If a politician knows that if he stands up there will be large, noisy, active group of supporters who will stand with him and defend him through thick and thin (as the media goes after his huevos), yes, I do believe it would add starch to their shorts and many would find a slumbering spine with which to bash libs over the head.
One only has to point to the beheading that Newt took (before his divorce and girlfriend), while too many conservatives looked on and stayed silent, to demonstrate the consequences of an out of control liberal media coupled with a meek, cowed or detached conservative consituency.

I'm married, so it doesn't happen very often ;0) If a man says someting in the woods and there are no women around to hear him, is he still wrong?

I WILL SAY IT AGAIN. THE CONSTITITUTION SAYS WHAT EVER FIVE JUSTICES SAY IT SAYS! That works for awhile...
Then people figure out that it really was in English, and it really means something.

It's the only way. This thing just isn't going to turn on a dime in some states - like my own (Washington).
If Schwarzenegger succeeds, I think it could help all of us in left-leaning states. I hope he kicks butt down there.
