TERRI SCHIAVO WHAT ELSE CAN WE DO?
Posted on 10/20/2003 3:26:05 PM PDT by AnimalLover
Wanted to pass along some information.
Have been calling everyone I could think of in Florida and Washington, including John Ashcroft -
lhttp://www.whitehouse.gov/government/ashcroft-bio.html
Called Hal Lindsey's office at TBN (Trinity Broadcast Network) - secretary had never heard of the case - gave her Terri's website - she said she was going to get in touch with Hal to see what he could do.
Called the Supreme Court- naturally closed for the day. Operator told me that to file a complaint, call the General Counsel of the Court at: 202 - 502-1100. She suggested I call early Tuesday since I live in California.

Thanks for the link to the Hospice Patients Alliance.
We donated money to a hospice in memoriam to a friend's mother who died. But I have long wondered about these places. Maybe some are decent, but the concept of "helping" people to die is ripe for abuse.
Interesting list of cases of abused hospice patients on this page.

I'm shocked! Ronnie "the Commie" Kuby (on the WABC-New York Curtis and Kuby radio program) is for saving the life of Terri!
Kuby tells the story of his own father, who was dying of throat cancer. His father at first stated that he "wouldn't want to live without a larynx."
BUT THEN, when it came time to decide whether to have the operation or no, Kuby's father changed his mind and decided he wanted to live!
Kuby notes that Terri's parents have volunteered to care for her, says "we certainly should not starve her to death."
Kuby, the ultra-left pro-choicer, ends by saying: "In this case we should err on the side of life"

I agree with you.
Go in and feed her...the ruckus that ensues when the Gestapo tries to stop it will HAVE to be covered by the media ( who, up to now, have been willing accomplices) and focus national attention on this.

I think you miss the point.
(before I write this, remember, I am on Terri's side, I want her to live, and I want this bill to pass so Gov Bush can step in)
The right to REFUSE medical treatment is almost a fundamental right in Anglo-American legal tradition. There are very few exceptions, mainly where parents are refusing "necessary" treatment for a child.
Where there is no advance medical directive, many states enshrine this right by allowing for a medical proxy to make those decisions for an unconscious person, and the medical proxy is generally husband/wife/family.
The law does not take your view, because there would be conflicts of interest with any or all of these, but they are also the ones who would/should have the clearest idea of what the patient would/should desire.
The judge was within the law, and, in fact, [in one of the great ironies of our times] acted "conservatively" in upholding and ruling according to that right that is enshrined in our legal system.
All that said, this case is extremely troubling, and I do hope that the Fla Senate and Gov Bush act quickly.

The one who said it best last night was the gentleman who said that the legislature must step in when the judiciary fails to interprete the law adequately. When there is a conflict of interest, red flags should go up all over the place, and the opinions and wishes of other CLOSE family members are essential to make a good, just, and correct decision. That is not happening here, and those reps knew it.
How can the husband's wishes be taken seriously in a legal setting where he has so clearly abandoned the role and responsibilities of being a husband. He has abandoned Terri for another woman. We have a judiciary for the express purpose of protecting people when what's "legal" doesn't take care them anymore, such as in Terri's case.
