This is not a war on Islam unless Muslims want it to be. Increasingly, though, it seems they do by the consistent refusal to outright condemn terrorism. By 'they', I mean the leadership plus a large chunk (if not a majority) of the masses.

A furor arose after reports were published about the statements by Boykin, in and out of uniform, in churches and elsewhere. Since the reports appeared, Boykin has told his superiors he will curtail his speechmaking.

As a retired army chaplain, let me assure you that a military member is allowed to go to church and that he is allowed to go to church in uniform.

He is not allowed to go to a political rally in uniform.

But his right to religious freedom has never been curtailed, and never should be.

Boynkin is a great warrior and asset for this country. His faith sees islam as a false faith. Now that he's in the public spotlight with 3 stars should he be careful what he says in public?

Probably. But not because he's wrong.

But for mere political considerations. In today's American culture everyone's religion is OK....as long as it isn't sincere Christianity. (For you doubters, that's a proof of the validity of Christianity if you care to think your way through it.)

I'm really sorry, but my stomach ties up in knots every time an Administration official says these words...as though by saying it is a peaceful religion will make it so...
If Islam were a peaceful religion,it would be unneccessary to say it repeatedly!!!

These people obviously want to convert to something. Anything but Christianity. If they lack the mental energy to try Buddhism, but they want something both useful and harmless, they might try that new Chinese exercise-religion, Buddhism for the man on the go.

This is the kind of stuff that, deep down, makes me not trustful of the GOP regarding the WOT.

I've also seen Republicans on FR make direct comparisons between conservative Christians and al Qaeda/the Taliban, which only increases the distrust.

To deny that Islam is at the root of the terrorism against the United States and the rest of the free world is to gamble with innocent human lives.

The side of Good is going after the terrorist Islamists and their supporters, not Muslims who wish no harm on us.

But the anger towards their culture is understandable in that the terrorists sprouted up *among* them but little was done to try to stomp them out.

If Islam was truly a "peaceful religion", those who abide by it would have put down the presumed heretics (fanatical Islamists) a long time ago and we would not be engaged in this current conflict.

If Islam was truly a "peaceful religion", Muslims everywhere would be marshalling their own forces to serve justice to their terrorist brethren, instead of conceding such actions to the western world.

If Islam was truly a "peaceful religion", one would not need to wonder whose side his Muslim neighbor is really on.
