[history]
Windsor, Ontario -- Doctors Siva Sriharan and Srinivas Chakravarthi may never get rich staying in this small auto-producing city little more than a stone's throw from downtown Detroit, but they can eat all the hamburgers, ribs and potato skins they want for the rest of their lives at Casey's Bar and Grill.

Canadian healthcare. It sucks, but it's "free".

Nationalized health care ALWAYS fails to perform as promised. In EVERY case, it has become rationed, with a wait of years for important surgery. How many people have died in Canada, because they gave up health care to an inept gov't?
What was the most shocking was the elite of canada got bumped to the front of the line...Isn't that so typical of liberals?

in the end always look at who benefits...the state makes out when there are no doctors to deliver services they collected taxes for.

oooh, harsh but probably true. Our own family practice doc was a professor of medicine and researcher at a large Canadian university, but left Canada to train as a family practice specialist in Kentucky because he was so disheartened by the Canadian system.

Both doctors said they are fed up with a two-tier medical system in which those with connections go to the head of the line for surgery. In socialised medicine, all are equal.
Sure.
One wouldn't want the Canadian Elite missing valuable relaxation time at their dachas by waiting in long lines at the doctor's office.

The brain drain is alive and well in the United States due to the regulation and restrictions. The worst problem is the shortage of nurses and doctors entering our medical schools. There are many choosing other fields for their careers.

The Canadian docs I meet at conferences are uniformly bitterly unhappy. They hate dealing with Canada's single payer system. Not a good prognostic indicator for the future of Canadian health care.

Neurosurgeons are in short supply everywhere. If this guy can make a good living here while practicing medicine the way it should be, then more power to him. I sure wouldn't want to wait months to have a brain tumor removed, would you?

There are many choosing other fields for their careers. Nursing, and other allied health fields, are having a difficult time recruiting for a variety of reasons. Plenty of people still want to go to medical school, though.

You get what you pay for. The Ayn Rand Institute should send copies of Atlas Shrugged to every physician in the Canadian system. Come to think of it, they should send them to US doctors too, before its too late.

Does anyone know if there is a health insurance company that offers coverage to Canadians so they can come to the USA for their care? I see lots of Canadians come to here for medical care and wonder how they can afford it. Cant be that all of them are wealthy...if so, then Canada must have the richest population in the world cuz there's lots of them that come here for care.
