oooh, harsh but probably true. Our own family practice doc was a professor of medicine and researcher at a large Canadian university, but left Canada to train as a family practice specialist in Kentucky because he was so disheartened by the Canadian system.

The brain drain is alive and well in the United States due to the regulation and restrictions. The worst problem is the shortage of nurses and doctors entering our medical schools. There are many choosing other fields for their careers.

The Canadian docs I meet at conferences are uniformly bitterly unhappy. They hate dealing with Canada's single payer system. Not a good prognostic indicator for the future of Canadian health care.

Neurosurgeons are in short supply everywhere. If this guy can make a good living here while practicing medicine the way it should be, then more power to him. I sure wouldn't want to wait months to have a brain tumor removed, would you?

Nursing, and other allied health fields, are having a difficult time recruiting for a variety of reasons. Plenty of people still want to go to medical school, though.

Does anyone know if there is a health insurance company that offers coverage to Canadians so they can come to the USA for their care? I see lots of Canadians come to here for medical care and wonder how they can afford it. Cant be that all of them are wealthy...if so, then Canada must have the richest population in the world cuz there's lots of them that come here for care.

i know that dems in this country aren't in the social security system...do they pay medicare taxes or are they exempt from those????
